Feeling a bit frustrated today. Clearing debts seems to move so quickly when you are paying off squillions of pounds....
Want to get to some kind of milestone, or pay off someone and feel good about it, but not possible on a DMP where some people are just getting a couple of £'s.
Still, i did put 12p in my sealed pot, which has cheered me up a little!
On goes the slog....DFW Long Hauler 292 / Sealed Pot Challenge Member #1452

Mushy pea, I am in the same situation - I have debts of £100 and debts of £4000 but they are all equally paid so no real milestones I can attach to them:(. My milestone or target, therefore, is my emergency fund and growing it. Even if it is only £20 per month sometimes.:TLBM August 2011. DFD somewhere post [STRIKE]2025[/STRIKE]2022

MsDaisy (298) welcome;introduce yourself to the folks!
Can understand feeling frustrated...seems to hit worst when you are trying hardest so seems even more disheartening...hang in there and have a bit of a plod; debtbusting is exhausting!
Was a good girl and spent 1/2 hour in a container, in the dark and rain getting boxes ...did debate buying them due to lack of energy/time but was good and saved myself 50 as just couldnt do it!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! I am 45, been a Civil Servant for the last 23 years (cant tell you which part of the Govt I work - sorry !).
I am quite happily single and my LBM came in Sept 2005 when I realised my credit card repayments were using the majority of my take home pay and I was only paying the minimum payments.
At that point I defaulted on my Credit Cards and HBOS pointed me in the direction of PayPlan to establish a DMP.
PayPlan initially asked if I wanted an IVA and I said no because of the possible implications for my job.
The only downside to waiting for the DMP to start was the incessant calls I got from HBOS, in the end I had a conversation which I repeated to them every time !.
When I made the first payment in Dec 2005 my debt was £22,000, after 6 years of payments my debt is now £3200 and this will be cleared in Dec 2012 or Jan 2013.
Luckily I rent my flat, dont own a car (never had a driving lesson !) and so therefore have no assets and so I was never threatened with CCJ`s etc.
And the daft thing is in 2002 I was given £25000 by my dad which I wasted paying off my debts only to accrue them again !.
I have learnt my lesson and will NEVER get into this situation again !.0 -
Thank you people - you have given me the little perk i needed!
So glad i joined this forum!
Good idea about having an emergency pot as a milestone. I have none so far (was included in my Payplan budget, but as i forgot about a debt to my sister and eldest daughter's swimming lessons, i haven't been able to put anything away).
Will use my sealed jar as my emergency fund - just putting in coppers and the odd 5p from down theback of the settee etc, but it is something at least!
And, i have to ask....In_Search_Of_Me wrote: »Was a good girl and spent 1/2 hour in a container, in the dark and rain getting boxes ...did debate buying them due to lack of energy/time but was good and saved myself 50 as just couldnt do it!DFW Long Hauler 292 / Sealed Pot Challenge Member #1452

Morning folks
I work as a primary teacher and I can honestly say I adore my job :j
I had my LBM last week :eek: I did post my SOA in a fit of panic but I took it down again as I realised there were many things I could do to trim the fat off. When I run out of ideas I'll repost as I know the lovely people on here will help me out. I'm realising that cutting back is OK as far as it goes but I still need to increase my income. The options I've come up with so far are setting up a small business like tutoring/mentoring and the biggy - selling my house to clear the debts. The only problem with selling the house is that by the time I clear the debts there won't be enough left for a deposit on a new houseAlso, not many houses moving at the moment. Some near me have been on the market for 2 and 3 years. I'm not going to rush into things but I fear this is the most sensible option. The worst thing about all of this is the sense of failure I feel every single day. As a single parent I really wanted to be a good role model for my DSs but feel I've completely blown it. They have no idea how bad things are
I am determined to sort this out.
In search of me - the (298) number you put after my name, is that my long haulers number? If so, I'll update my signature.
Thanks for reading. Have a good day everyone :wave:Sealed pot challenge no 1521

Hi Daisy. Selling my home was an option I considered too but then chose the DMP route instead as I decided my home was more beneficial to me than my credit rating. It would have cost me more the rent, approx £600 per mont in my locale, than my mortgage £530 per month. Would this option be suited to you perhaps? It's not ideal of course but for me it was sell my home (that's assuming I could sell of course), and IVA (too much equity in my home apparently), the DMP (120 a month for the next zillion years) or carry on with head in sand until ending up in court.
Have a think about it anyway, if you have not already, do a little reading on here and maybe ring Payplan or CCCS.
