Hi Happy, I read in the info that if you don't have an international drivers license in Spain they accept credit card payments only. Maybe it meant both credit and debit cards. If that is the case we will be okay. I will check.
business mortgage £0))''(+ Barclay's business kitchen loan £0=Total paid off was £96105 PPI claimed and received £13527

I humbly request, nay, beg, the resurrection of this thread!!!

Two degrees, shoe and Starbucks addictions, plus my stupid 18 month absence from this site have cost me dear. I have been back for around 4 months now, but with sporadic work coming in and debts around the 48k mark, I am barely making a dent on them. In these crappy financial times, I need morale support from other long-haulers! So, if you've ever been on here, tell me your number, and how you are doing? I know lots of people have been better than me and have cleared lots of debts, so tell me about it for inspiration :T, or commiserate with me if you have also made little progress!
  • I havent been here before ( on this thread ) but I wondered if I could join? I've asked a couple of questions on some other forums and it was kindly suggested i should try the DFW thread.

I have approx 40k to clear... I'm not as focused as I could be and need to get organised!!

I need to do an soa thing.. off to find where it is!!

Here is a great guide to doing an SOA:

Just to let you know, I'm trying to create some interest in this particular thread, it has been quiet for a while, so you might be better to post your SOA on the main Debt Free Wannabe board. But yes, you are more than welcome to join in!! Good luck!

Hi thevinternet - I recognise you from the PAD thread

I too am a longhauler (no 145 reporting in) and like you have slipped somewhat due to being complacent and spending when I should be paying off debt:eek: I need to take a snapshot of where I am & will report back with figures, hopefully. I'm not great at keeping records, I wish I was & then I would probably be more focused. But I've no idea how to set up or use a spreadsheet. And whilst I've got my snowball calc, I haven't kept up to that either. More than likely it's because I moved all the ccs around to try & get zero interest & then got horribly confused:eek:
Anyhow, I will deffo report in.....the first thing to say is already in my sig - I've had a budget ac overdraft with Lloyds for 2000 pounds (new computer & no pound sign, it's a # for some reason) AND also with the same bank, a personal ac overdraft for 5500 pounds MAXED OUT - for YEARS. And they are both now GONE, so that's a little victory, 7500 pounds of continuous interest finally over.......plenty more where that came from however.

We can do it though - however long it takes:T:T:T
New start JAN15 - NOT BUYING IT 2015 . Long haul DFW #145 : 2011 DEBTBUSTING : £5500 OD GONE, £2000 OD - GONE £93,610.30 cc & loan debt - GONE 27.6.14 FINALLY DEBT & MORTGAGE FREE :happyhear
  • Hi Sashanut..
Ive had a 3k od at lloyds since i was a student 6 years ago!! and more recently 2k with santandar. I have just for the first time since 2001 got out of my overdraft.. granted i still have millions of credit cards and loans etc but just to not see OD on my online banking this month has been amazing... hold onto that feeling ... thats what i'm trying to do.. when i'm feeling rubbish ( most days that a cc bill arrives) i am trying to log onto my internet banking to remind myself that i have made some progress!!
And i'm back on here... i've been avoiding this site all year...jsut in time for christmas so being on this site wil hopefuly stop me spending ven more money i havent' got over christmas!!

Hey Sashanut, nice to see you here too *waves back*!

Thanks for responding, I feel like us long-haulers need to stick together, it is tough for anyone to get rid of debt, but to keep on track after many years of trying to be frugal seems even harder somehow. That's the magic of compound interest for you :( can't wait until one day it's working the other way for me and I'm getting interest on savings!!

Sounds like you are doing great, fabulous work with the overdrafts. I hate mine, especially the charges when I go over the limits  although I've only done that once since July, which believe it or not, is progress for me. Prior to that I was getting charged nearly every month. :o Ay carumba. Small steps, small steps.

Well done with the OD, and welcome back. We all seem to return here in the end!!

Yippee. Another thread I can join in with owing to DMP which may be paid up at some point before I die:rotfl: I laugh rather than cry! I suppose I can also use this moment to berate myself for yesterday's overspend too. I went into Sainsbury's; I alternate between there and Lidl. I then spent ..... Wait for it .... £106 !!!! There is only myself, my adult son and my daughter in my home. £106! What was I thinking. I have done so well since starting my DMP.

So here was the thought / justification process.

    £106 included;

£30 deep fat frier - a long term investment as real chips are tastier and cheaper than oven chips.
£5 plug in air freshener was on half price offer and son's bedroom stinks.
£6 bottle of red wine - treat to me
£7.50 dog food - on offer with 20% off as the cheap stuff gives him wind
£6.80 Hagen das ice cream on offer - a tub each as on offer
£6 rubber chicken - do not feel need to justify this as chicken really is rubber and can easily stretch to 4 meals.

So these were the big ticket items and the rest really was just food.

So what does everyone else think please? Has anyone else ever written down their overspend like this? Whislt laughing about it now, I still experience a slight sickly feeling about it!
