Current balance around £70k. DMP with Payplan started in April 2011 with a DFD of around September 2017. Feels like a million years away today!

Hi allypops of course you can tell us about yourself. My negative wealth at its highest was 74k and didn't include mortgage it'd now in the 40s and should be gone by dec 2012 :-) x

Thanks. Unfortunately, my total of £70k excludes the mortgage too. :eek: When we started the DMP with Payplan it was £76k.

I wish I'd followed through when I had a false light bulb moment (should that be a flicker) a couple of years ago when I owed around 45k - but instead I carried on robbing Peter to pay Paul. Also since then we have had to pay our share of the cost of a new roof and doubleglazing as part of our leasehold agreement so that added a fair bit. Needless to say we had nothing put by.:cool:

The debt is the joint total for me and DH - we are jointly responsible for it - i.e. we are both as bad as eachother. Both determined to pay it all off and live within our means in the future. Going to be a long, hard road but worth it in the end (even though it doesn't always feel like it).

Im REALLY sorry that numbers have taken a while...have been a bit rubbish of late - generally feeling crap and then had car accident to top it off so have been in pain as well
So, welcome newbies! Long haul is unique in some ways as becoming debt free is such a distant glimmer and its hard to keep the energy going for fighting debt. We are all different and I do think that debt busting is also related to personality, as is why we got into debt in the first place.

Me debtwise has been up and down of late...more down if Im honest but feeling like Im getting there a bit. I have a new money saving pig which is for my and mums debt free holiday to new york - which will be a decade full circle. I realised how bad things were when I got back from NY and will go back debt free and paid for. Only a few years to go now...
Think i need a challenge to be honest as have been just paying mins of late and one card went up a bit; thankfully much is on 0% so that helps but once the remaining LOB is paid off will dig in to getting those down. Have decided that mum and I will continue to stay in my flat (very squashed as two of us living in a one bed flat) until debts paid; two reasons for this - housing market is dire and would feel happier moving when I am financially better off and would then be able to get a mortgage; mine is awful!
Newbies it would be good to hear a bit about you - how you got here and anything else you choose to share!
Im off to sort "the cupboard"...may be a while!

Lovely to see you isom, yay for more numbers..... i know what you mean about a challenge, i continue to pay minimum and then i save an amount that will wipe a card or loan and when its at that amount i pay up and a few days later i close it down then i dont feel so much like im paying into a blackhole plus its nice to see some savings it gives off a more positive vibe ..... the news is all the same of late economic crisis but im happy in my bubble and i like you will remain in the home we are in until negative wealth is gone ( i pinched the word from firewalkers thread) its more positive hope people keep posting xx

Just an update...I muddled through my dilemma of nee moneys, managed to do a couple of extra cash in hand jobs for mates which just about saw me through, phew! I am now saving a little bit each month having seen the errors of my ways.

I think I got a bit excited when I was paying cards etc off cancelling them and having no fall back, hopefully my dramas won't happen again!

Advice to anyone who needs it...don't cancel everything just in case!

Thanks andra. We have found that because we got rid of all our credit cards,when we wanted to hire a car in Spain they wouldn't let us without a credit card. DH has applied for a card which we hope will be here in time for us going on holiday.

I am working towards paying off my car repair bill then begins the slog to pay off the loans.
