  • In a previous life I was a member of the original long haulers thread, prior to the first, or possibly second consolidation.....:o Still, this time I mean it, so can I join this one please? By sticking close to this forum, I'm hoping I can get rid of this blooming debt once and for all considering I've now been in some form of debt or other for all my adult life!

  • I also think this thread is a good motivator for those of us are likely to be here a while. It's nice looking at the first thread and seeing people who are now debt free :T One day that will be me :D

Yes, me too! At the moment though, my goal is to try and build a little emergency fund from my overtime and from cutting back - (I am on a DMP). Thus my horror at this week's overspend, (see above).

We're 5 1/2 years into a DMP with CCCS and have just short of 2 years to go so it feels like we are on the home strait now thank god. It's been the best thing we ever did as we were simply robbing peter to pay paul every month and the stress was unbearable. But the DMP is working and our debts have gone down from 146k (yes, I know....I know) to 38k. I just cant wait for the day we pay off the last card, then I will have a party :D

What an amazing amount of debt you've cleared, I hope you are very proud of yourselves. At that level most people would have thrown in the towel , gone bankrupt and got it written off. You've paid it off yourselves, which is really admirable.

    Yippee........

£5 plug in air freshener was on half price offer and son's bedroom stinks.
£7.50 dog food - on offer with 20% off as the cheap stuff gives him wind

As a dog owner I cannot fault you for avoiding giving your do wind, there is nothing worse.

Of course you could have just bought the cheap dog food and made your son share his room with the dog thereby getting double the value from the air freshener:rotfl:

  • Hi Mort - that's a fab idea and closer to the truth than you might expect! The dog does tend to end up in my son's room and I have been accusing him of having rotting food in there and all sorts until we all discovered the effect of Lidl's cheapest dog food on our Yorkie!!!:rotfl:

Seriously, the things that you discover in the name of economising. What an adventure it is. Another mishap was Lidl's mussles in garlic - arggh, they were fould. Generally though, a combination of Sainsbury's and Lidl seems to work quite well.:j

Here's to another 20 years of economising adventure:beer:

I am still here. Need some strong reminders before I spend anything on Christmas. My most urgent debts are two car repair bills then I can concentrate properly on the long haul again.

My plan is to be debt free in 10 years.
