Hi, I found you all via another thread and am a bit of a late starter. I will have my new mortgage on Monday and have also applied for a business loan. Both are planned to end in around 10 years. I would like to have both paid off in nine years, if I can, as I will be 60 then.

Not too long at all - I dont even count my mortgage as a debt at this stage - too depressing!0 -

Hello everyone - sorry, this is the first chance I've had to get online.
We have a new boy! Baby Adam was born at 5:45am on Thursday morning. Its been an eventful 48 hours I can tell you!
We went to bed as normal on Wedensday nigh. Unknown to me, my OH got up at midnight, but didn't disturb me. I woke up at 2am - not sure what made me wake up, but I'm glad I did - and I went downstairs to find my OH with her maternity notes and the telephone about to phone the hospital. I asked her how she was and she said her contractions had started at midnight. I asked where they were at just now said and she said "about 3-4minutes apart". OH MY GOD, GET IN THE CAR!!!
We got to the hospital for 2.30am and my OH was so relaxed and so quiet that the midwives didn't think she was in active labour. I was sent through at 4am to ask the midvies for pain relief. they explained that they would need to do an examination before any pain relief was given out. They did the examination and found that she WAS in active labour! My OH, despite being in a lot of pain, was so quiet the midives weren't prepared at all and suddenly it was a mad rush to get her to the delivery unit. She got there at 5am and 45 MINUTES later she gave birth. Seriously guys, I don't know why I was even there - my OH did it all and was so relaxed about it, I'm still in shock!
She had to stay in last night as the baby had a high temperature, but everything was fine and mumand baby were disharged at lunchtime today. He is a lovely little thing, very quiet (so far!) and sleeping pretty much all the time. My daughter is fascinated by the baby, but as she is still ittle herself, we have to watch she doesn't get too overzealous! I'm just so glad everyone is home now. Two kids under two is going to be fun, but I'm excited about it. I have a MONTH off work now, thank god, and I think we're going to need it!
Thank you everyone for your good wishes.
EB69 - keep you chin up. When i first started I think I lasted a week before I got fed up. I still get fed up now! I think its part of being a longhauler that you get 'waves' of enthusiasm. What I've found helpful is not to fight them. If you get fed up, then stop for a while and make your minimum payments. After a while you get fed up of being in debt and that pushes you back into action. Do not despair, just ride out the low wave and you will find your high wave again.
Annibee - MASSIVE CONGRATS ON YOU BABY!! Yes, much cheaper second time round, we've already hauled everyting out the loft. Due date??

Thanks all, you have made me feel so much better about all of this. Our mortgage only had 3 years to go and was really quite small. From Monday it will treble in size and increase to 10 years. For us it feels like serious debt but when I read about how long you have to go it seems quite insignificant.
Thanks for my number ISOM
