  • Hi All,

It's been a long time since I've posted, but I paid off one of my credit cards this week and it seemed the right time to make time to come back.

It's also been 2 years this month since my real lightbulb moment. Back then I owed nearly £50k on credit cards. I'd been paying over £1k a month to meeting minimum payments - nearly all of it interest 'cos most was on 0-5% interest - and still the balances were going up.

Looking at all the daily new posts on this tremendous DFW thread brings back all the emotions, fear, desperation, bewilderment, panic, etc, etc that I used to (and still do on occasion) feel.

Particularly when you don't get to put the other dramas of life on hold, it can all get a bit overwhelming. But enough of the doom and gloom - the point of posting is that things do get better.

The key is to start dealing with the situation rather than burying your head. You then start to find options and move forward, even if its slowly. Two years later and I'm now down to my last 3 cards and whilst the end is still a long way off, I can see it.

So just wanted to say good luck to all who are in it for the long haul and keep going.

Oh and there is one benefit of being in debt, have you noticed how you get a lot less junk mail when your credit rating is in bits?

  • Woo hoo - laptop is fixed and all at minimal cost! Phew....

How is everyone doing? End of another year and gearing up for Xmas, always a great time......!

Not been too bad a year - better than the year before anyway. Got an extra £4000 paid off my debts, but I have literally emptied the loft doing it so I'm not sure where I will go next year with my debt busting endeavours.

Only 2 weeks to baby number two. Poor Abigail is not pleased. She knows something is wrong but she is too little to understand what it is. She used to go to bed so well but for the past week she has just been screaming and screaming and refusing to go to sleep - apart from that she is her usual happy self, just very clingy. We're guessing she is just a bit insecure and we're hoping once the new baby arrives she realises that the world hasn't ended for her! Hard work this week.

Through some extra ebay I have managed to push myself up to £600 extra out of my £2000 goal. I am determined not to spend this on anything as it will pay off the car loan, saving me £100 a month. Hopefully by spring I can manage that, although as I say, I'll have to sell myself to raise the money as I haven't got anything left to sell!!

Anyway, it is good to back. Wise words from MS Dolphin and welcome ones. Its nice to see someone coming out the other side of the debt tunnel.

Happy (belated ) halloween and guy fawkes night!

Hi guys - back from my hols now and glad to report didnt over spend!

MS Dolphin - thanks for your post - that's just what I need to hear to keep me focussed. I am only a month in to the debt busting and already have up days, down days and what's the point days. Today, I am happy to say, is an up day.

Right then, back to the grindstone now. Have a good week one and all...
  • No news is good news I'm afraid - only a week to due date. Everytime I'm at work and my phone rings I think 'this is it....!'....but its not....arrrgh, the tension!

Another bad money month. Somehow managed to completely mess up my budget and went £100 over, which i have had to divert from my savings...not happy. AND I just got my new water direct debit instruction and they are raising my monthly payment from £29 to £78...??!!! That will be a fun phone call on Monday!

    Anyone having a better month??!!

Having a fairly good month. Due to ds having chickenpox i didnt have to drive him the 160 mile trip to see his dad which means i saved about £50 in petrol money..... Doubled my tesco vouchers so bought ds £30 worth of clothes as stocking fillers (all where in sale so even cheaper!!!!) and have now a 20 voucher to spend on toys then he is done!!

One of my ebay items never arrived so luckily they gave me a refund (in actual fact i think they just hadnt sent it grrr)

I havent had one single takeaway this month :)

Wiped out boots 3 for 2 offers and used some coupons to get some further free stuff so i now have christmas AND some birthdays sorted!!!!

Have £20 in bank and get paid tomorrow!!! Im loving that lol and im expecting a bit of overtime so that should be an extra 300 :).

Won a tenner on the lottery and 20 on the walkers comp and made £90 in ebay sales

So feeling quite happy this month. Sorry that some of you are having not so great months but im sure next month will be better :)
I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it.

Hey guys - I feel like a fraud. I signed up to this as I say I am in it for the long haul, whereas in fact its now 1 month and 3 days since LBM and I feel no better off and totally bored of it all. Frustrated that the £2k or so I wiped off in first few weeks was immediately put back on via daughter's car insurance etc, and running out of enthusiasm at the moment to think of new stuff. The dress hire thingy seems to be OK at the moment (which considering I've done !!!!!! all about it is pretty good news) and also the ebay thing got off to great start (although slowed down at the mo as no time to organise anything).

So - cuning plans to earn £42K in six month, anyone? not sure I want my long haul to go any longer than that...

Well done Annie on your good month - long may the luck continue!

    And Talisker? pitter patter yet?
