  • aww hugs millie...hard though it is would suggest a few months of sheer emergency shopping only - use storecup things (actually quite a fun challenge when you get into it) and no no essential buying and pay off as much as you can - the way I try to think of it is that this way I pay less interest!
am frustrated by barclays as they say they cant tell until next statement whether the same rate applies...doh...
Puss cat here asleep in the crook of my arm...amazing how a bundle of furr can make you so happy!

  • Thanks everyone for your support, it really does mean a lot. A funny thing happened yesterday, we got my hubby's Natwest cc bill and last month we phoned them up to see if they would reduce the interest rate on that, they told us they were shortly reviewing interest rates and would write to us. Well that didn't happen, his interest rate is unchanged but instead they have increased his credit limit from £8980 to £11980!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!

Anyway, I am feeling a lot more positive that I was the other day. We have paid off 3 overdrafts this week. We have been using overdrafts to pay extra on some cards just because the interest was cheaper but Experian told us thats a bad idea too, so they told us to pay them off but keep the overdrafts open so it looks like we have access to more credit but are managing it well.

We still have a couple of other overdrafts which will be paid off next month so it means back to min payments for a month or two, and then xmas coming up!

ISOM - thats a great idea, we do have cupboards and freezers completely overflowing with food so we should really be able to cut back significantly on our shopping budget for a while. I'm currently allowing £70 a week for groceries but I know we could get by on a lot less than that if I was stricter.

Hi everyone, not been on here for a while as not much to report apart from nursing a broken heart from my relationship ending.

Trying hard not to spend to compensate and I am in the process of sending 2 things back I ordered with just the postage to pay so not too bad at getting money neutral.

Have been busy selling on ebay to try and get some money for Christmas presents. Have declutted a ton of stuff I bought to make me happy and now can easily live without. Learnt that lesson the hard way.

In Nov I will have paid off my Black Horse Loan, meaning this year I have paid off the Store Card, AA Loan too.

Really need to tackle to CC next year, I have no idea how to make more payments. I need to seriously pay off 2 next year. Don't know yet how I will do this.

I am thinking about trying to reclaim some bank charges from Yorkshire Bank (not main a/c) and then HSBC (main a/c). Scared to tackle HSBC as I am worried what action they will then take on my a/c

Has anyone tried this and had a positive outcome? I would love to put the money towards the CC to help paying them off a bit more

too true my dear, a very tough time indeed. Hardly eaten a thing this week, no appetite etc.

Need to get back on track with the debt busting sometime soon.......as you rightly said to not get bound down by the feelings of debt again

  • Hang in there...I had a couple of weeks where I couldt eat but just had lucozaide and knew it would pass...lost a stone or so, so trousers falling down!! What about a hobby (cheap) to take your mind off the loss? Or revamp your df plan and go for it! Also could do sommat like join a book group? Cheap as only one eve a month and you could get book from library and a good way to meet new people (One pair became a couple at mine!)...If things get really low the go to see the GP...reactive depressio (ie feeling depressed because of a life changing event) is relatvely common and they'll be able to advise on what todo - sometimes a brief session of councelling helps sift through what happened..reallys helps me! Regardless, onwards and upwards and remember "This too shall pass" ...big hugs for you...

Thanks my dear for your kind words of advice. Have felt bad today, wearing off a little now and I am planning to keep busy tomorrow to stop the dwelling.

How are you btw? - did you sell your place or hang onto it and pop a lodger in for some extra income? Hope you are ok too x

  • I am still here with a lodger in situ - shes away and out alot so impact minimised...does take a while to get used to living with someone in a small space but needs must...also learning lessons along the way in getting next one!!
    How are others getting on?

  • Sorry you're broken hearted FedUp, I hope you come through soon.

I reclaimed OH's bank charges a couple of years ago, it was pretty easy... not sure how quick it would be atm as all but the hardship cases are on hold. Definately have a look at the thread as ISOM said, and get the ball rolling.

    Chin up hun
