thanks for the kind words, feeling a bit better today. I have decided to give the new role 6 months as it normally takes that long for anyone to feel settled in a new job and feel they have got to grips with it. So I will be reviewing it again next March. Ok, so no immediate action, but I can deal with another 5 months. OH has finally realised after a bit of a chat that we need to clearing more than the minimums on his CC if we are ever to get anywhere, so that is a good step forward. He has already sorted out a number of tools and other bits that he wants to sell and put the money towards the CC, so thats positive. His shed needs a good sort out. We are going to have to put our thinking caps on to raise some extra cash! take care and remember PMA x
  • keep up the good work something good will come x

  • Good for you dubgirl...new things always tough and worth giving it a good go so a least you know youve tried your best...plus its a job after all! Job insecurity has definately focussed my mind and I've been very frugal...if work turns out ok then I have enough to pay mbna off in full!!

  • I haven't thought about Christmas either! Been slow going here, just treading water, very slowly getting the numbers down a teeny teeny bit.
Presents - the last few years I have allowed £5 per person, nice to give something, even if its small! I have £25 on my Boots advantage card, so thats 5 gifts sorted! For my mum this year, who loves to read, I'm going to the 2nd hand book shop where you just give a donation of what you can afford and getting here a pile of paperbacks to see her through the new year!

I might try and make some things, but I currently am working 3 jobs to get the debt down faster so have very little spare time... Can I ask, what kind of things do you make? Apart from baked goods I can't think of anything!
  • I also have almost £30 on my nectar card, so will be able to buy nice christmas food goodies, yeay!
  • I haven't a clue what to make il be buying I think lol x

    Re: Christmas

I started buying bits in the sales on July and started to put together a present list and a budget for family. I really wanted to avoid the rush and squash and potential overspend on the CC this year. It's taken some thinking about but I'm nearly organized for once!

Just need to sort out the food lists as I am cooking

Just ordered last 2 bits for mum and brother from amazon today using my £25 lightspeed points survey voucher which I started in Dec last year and it took until Aug to get enough but it came in handy. For once was able to pay in cash for these instead of sticking them on the CC which I would have done before and HAVE STUCK TO A BUDGET!!!!!

Have put together hampers for them and bought boxes and baskets in the sales in the summer.

£20 on the nectar card and £36 in Luncheon Vouchers for food and drink from the other surverys.

Have tried very hard this year to stay on budget and get it organised early (see special occasions board organized for christmas and other special occ thread which has been a massive help with people full of ideas and bargains to spend within the budgets)

Baked the christmas cake last weekend (god knows what it'll taste like!) Not too expensive as a lot of the baking goods were on offer and also made some chutneys with some dried fruit on offer (plus on the thread there are some nice cake recipes which I don't think cost that much to make).

So mum also gets some HM mince pies, cake, chutneys for the year like it or not, but I think she will like them and likes the fact they are HM! Let's hope so anyway.

The other thing that surprised me was putting hampers together and how much money you can save over buying them ready made.

Have a little look on that board if you need some ideas for not much money and you will be welcomed aboard (it is nice and friendly over there too)

If you have a Home Bargains close by, have a look in there as it is cheeeap and pretty good for some things

Sorry to go on - hope it helps!
