  • Sorry you're having grief with Barclays. Companies should be forced to pay emotional compensation everytime they mess up to account for the raised blood pressure they cause!

Things plodding along with me, a bit slow at getting numbers down, but have spent some money on home improvements so at least I know exactly where the money has gone. Second job going well so stashing that money away, and our new lodger moves into the spare room this week, so will hopefully makes things easier financially!

With the extra cash from second job and lodger hoping to step up the debt repayments and get the higher interest cards down. Still waiting to hear from Virgin about price hike, I know what their answer will be but until they reply can't go to the ombudsman.

Apart from that, loving the autumnal weather! Bought a couple of 'new' jumpers off Ebay to keep me going through the colder months...
Hope everyone else is well and working hard at staying afloat!

  • hi everyone

I'm in total despair and feel like I'm hitting rock bottom and will never get our damned debts paid off. Creditors are increasing our interest rates left right and centre even though we are overpaying every month, we can't get a new bank account except a basic one (just been refused for the first time ever) and I can't even switch our electric because they want a security deposit due to our credit rating!

So I had a look at our credit reports and there is NOTHING adverse on them, I am just completely and utterly baffled why our score is so crap.

We have £4200 a month coming into the house, £800 is essential outgoings (mortgage, council tax etc), min payments on debt comes to £900 a month so that leaves us with, what?, £2500 spare !!!!!!! which we are using to overpay stuff.

I phoned Experian to ask why our rating is so crap, he has told me it is because I am maxxed out on my credit. Yes this is true as we are overpaying hubby's stuff (all my credit cards are at 16% or below, hubby's is 21% or higher so we are paying just over min on all mine at the moment and everything else at his)

He said I need to get my debt to 70% of my available credit (it's 87% at the mo) and then because the rest of my report is absolutely fine my score will shoot straight back up.

So today, I come home to find a letter from hubby's HSBC card to say they are putting his rate up from 20.9% to 21.9% even though we overpay this card every month. Tried talking to them but all they have said is that we already have a good rate for the balance (which is 6k) as they said most people who owe more than 5k are on 28.9%. All they can offer us is a loan:mad: so I really call that being financially responsible replacing one debt with another.

I am sooooooooooo upset, I just feel that whatever we do, the creditors have all decided they are just going to milk us even more because they are making so much out of us and know that we will always pay due to our incomes and essential outgoings.

When we do get everything paid off, I will NEVER get credit again.

  • Have some hugs from me as well Millie.
That really is horrible of them all when you are doing all you can to get things straight. I don't have any advice, we're struggling with the rising rates at the moment.
Are you at least able to keep up with payments and continue to overpay a bit? I guess although it will take longer at least if the debt is going in the right direction.
Is there any way you can up your income at bit? second job, anything to sell to get an injection of cash to reduce one of the higher interest rate balances? I know theres a thread on here somewhere about extra income.
I know how you feel, as if the whole of the financial community is out to get us. Just keep focusing on how good it will feel when the debt is finally gone ;)
  • Hugs, sorry to hear that i have a round the same amount of starting debt as you do :D... normally when they say they are taking the intrest up they offer you the opportunity to keep the same percent but you have to cancel the card so you can not reuse it that suited me fine id rather have a lower intrest rate and not have to respend :D good luck keep your chin up you will get there in the end we all will its just so mentally and emotionally draining :D xx

  • Hi everyone,

Sorry about my 'senior' moment ISOM! - too much wine methinks. I have proudly put my number on my signature, so that makes me an official member now.

Millie, sorry you are having such a bad time, it is so frustrating when you are working so hard to go forward and keep getting pushed back - I can't offer much advice I am afraid, I went on a DMP with my hubby 3 years ago with debts of £83k, so all interest was frozen. It means we will probably never get credit again, but seeing as we got ourselves in such a mess that is probably a blessing in disguise.

Hugs to all those that need them.
