 Hello my fellow long hauling honeys!

A little update from me as I'm trying not to be here quite so much at the mo' as I really should be eBaying like maniac for Christmas.

My profile says I only make about 3.4 posts a day but evidently I must be here for hours just reading then. :p

I also need to knuckle down and claim back our bank / CC charges - but I'm scared of doing it for some reason.

We've managed to pay an extra £200 off this month, but paid a slightly reduced amount last month due to new tyres, a block of driving lessons for my son's birthday and the "Back To School" and "New Job" clothing expenses for my DD and DS respectively.

Every month I try my hardest not to buy them clothes and every month they need something!

Oh well, at least my eldest can buy his own clothes from now on. I don't think he's ever bought himself anything to wear ever. *thinks* Nope. Everything he wears I picked and paid for. (That makes him sound like such a Mummy's Boy doesn't it? :rotfl: )

And he IS going to pay some "keep" but we're still negotiating the amount.

His opening offer was £12.50 a week which he thinks is quite generous given that none of his mates - including his 21 years old and working full time girlfriend - have to pay a penny in their houses - and in fact, seem to be constantly getting parental hand outs if DS is to be believed.

I think that's a low ball offer in view of the fact that we used to give him twice that just to pay for for food every week when he was at college and this "keep" is s'posed to be a contribution to the bills etc as well.

(It's funny how £25 was never enough when it was going one way but it's extortion when the money is changing hands in the opposite direction huh?! :D:p )

But it's a starting point....

I'm also doing the November Grocery Challenge on MS:OS and I'm determined to kick the @r$e out of it and make it our lowest month yet. :D

I hope it's all going Ok for you guys?

    Love Jacks xxx :D

Note to the Keeper of the LHS Membership numbers.

Pardon my temerity Ma'am/Sir, but I've allocated myself number 44, being my current age :D . If this is not the correct membership number, please let me know and I'll amend it.

    Yours respectfully

  • Good afternoon all

    Hope you are all well.

Jax’s I’ve been meaning to say for a while you must live near me I’m a stones throw from the Hampshire border, but in Surrey.

We also have a fed up person in the house (my stepson), he has recently stared his first proper job after university and his DAD has asked for a contribution of £150 per month, the SS hasn’t spoken to OH since although I have had a cheque for £150 ungraciously throw at me. He earns 17K so hopefully this isn’t too unreasonable, to ask for this amount.

I’m making my preparations for a 10 day holiday in the Algarve, this time we will not spend £1,800 (just spending money) like the last time in 2005, instead OH and me are going to get £350 worth of euros each and this has to last!!! Probably still too much but we have been saving for most of the year. We are self catering so we should have some lovely meals out we this kind of cash  .

Still feeling a failure for not being able to put data onto this thread, if anyone reading this could give me some tips I would be very grateful. I was really looking forward to getting everything on a spreadsheet (I love excel).

Anyway better go now and do some work, take care all.

    Regards

    Howdy neighbour! :D

I think we are probably pretty close to each other hon.

Where we live if you drive a mile or two in any given direction you seem to be always crossing back and forth over county borders. (The taxi drivers must have a field day!)

Well done your OH on the stepson front. My hubby's still a bit wobbly about our situation but he'll get used to it!

I think £150 is very fair. That will still leave him with loads to play with every month.

I'm going for £200 a month from mine I think. I'll let you know how I get on... :D

If it is any help I earn £17k a year and I give my Mum £207.50, it would be more but she wont accept any more while I'm in debt. I think that is a very reasonable amount and he would be paying much more if he moved out.
    Current debt - £16,300 :(
    Debt at worst 17/03/2011 - £18,067.62:eek::eek:
:ANot going anywhere else, ever again :A
  • Excuse me butting my nose in - I used to pay my parents £230 a month PLUS a third of all bills when I lived at home. And I was on 10K!!!!!

So yeah - assuming the take home on £17K a month is £1070 ish, I think £150 is very generous - still leaves £920/4 = £230 a week.

I usd to wonder what my parents did with my board and keep..........then dad bought a new car.....

If you wait for perfect conditions, nothing would ever get done! :T
    I'm not short - I'm condensed awesome! :p
  • *Hangs head in guilt*

My mum only took £20 a week from brother and me when we were living at home, but we had to pay for our own telephone calls, that was about 10 years ago though but I still think my mum was selling herself short

  • hey long haulers! Can I suggest that people dont allocate themselves numbers but wait until they are allocated by hypno cos its gonna get REALLY complicated otherwise...seeing as she's doing it out of the goodness of her own heart & with very limited time (unlike me who had limited brain capacity!!) it would be great if people could just be patient & take the number they are given to avoid work for hypno? Dont seem to sound harsh but the numbers thing was just for fun....
Anyway, have almost had a no spender and feeling ok but a bit fed up having worked out my % of salary as debt - 100% - was 127% so some improvement! Good to see so many people joining! Its good to know I'm not alone and us long haulers need to stick togeather for the bumpy road ahead! Trying not to think about Christmas!! Its gonna be cheap I can tell you that much! Thankfully I have been very open about my debts so people know this in advance and am getting more innovative with making presents!

I'm fine with that in theory and then I leave the house & the plan goes somewhat awry! SOOO much better than I was & am now excellent at getting a bargain but I still have a long way to go!! I definately come under the "could do better" category and just find that life (car, pets etc) just get in the way!! Never mind we WILL get there in the end! Some of us are not destined for the easy route though...wish I could be a saint! Any tips pepys?!! Mind you did just make some fudge & its YUMMY!! Simple pleasures and most of it is gifts! Must get it boxed & sealed! quick!!!
