Cheery's country living adventure

I nearly said something about 'the things you do for entertainment' when you posted about painting the ceiling - it's an awful job in my book! But you're right, I'd be saving the money too (although Fortune makes paying someone to do it sound awfully appealing!).Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Great that progress is being made Cheery and your kitchen pic looks fab and it is so spacious. Just think of all the cooking and baking you will enjoy doing once your new kitchen is finally fitted. Something to really, really look forward to I bet.
We've been in decorating mode here too and have just finished our 3rd bedroom, yay! BUT, both of us hate decorating, and because we were that chuffed that we even decorated 3 of the rooms ourselves we decided to get a quote to have the rest of the house decorated including our huge kitchen. The quote came in at an eye-watering 4.2K 😮😮😮 so now we have resigned to the fact that we will be decorating the rest of the house ourselves, slowly knowing us two I guess 🤣🤣🤣
Are you collecting your new hens this Saturday?. Once you collect them could we have "name one of Mr & Mrs Cheerys hens competition on here? And, the winner gets a virtual cuppa and a big slice of virtual cake?. Of course, you may already have names in mind for them but if you haven't I just thought it would be a bit of fun for you to see what posters come up with.

Kudos for ceiling painting - I think I've done it once, in the first property I owned, in East London - I never got any quotes for that back then, but what you've been quoted is eye-watering. Good for you
your pic on the last page has lovely lights, they look wonderful for a kitchen.
Sorry to hear about Rusty, though - she was obviously an amazing character, and loved being where she was with you.2023: the year I get to buy a car8 -
Crikey edwink, I'd definitely be decorating myself for that cost! Our £1700 was for painting and gloss (which we're not doing anyway), kitchen, dining room and bedroom (which is two rooms knocked together) so not an unreasonable quote, but generally I quite like painting and would rather do that bit myself. It's just the ceiling I was complaining about! One end of the bedroom is done now, so I'm going to try and get the other one done tonight. This is a watery first coat to soak into the plaster, so it'll need at least one more, possibly two, but at least they'll be less drippy.
Thanks for all your lovely wishes about Rusty, she certainly was a character KC 😊 Excellent idea for a competition edwink, but we do already have names in mind for this lot. Do feel free to suggest though, we have an ongoing list of names that we're drawing from so happy to add to it!
Right. Mr Cheery is out and I'd like a bit of time to loaf around later, so I'm going to spend an hour using up the rest of the paint and then get into my nightie and put Escape to the Chateau on 😁😁7 -
Blimey! I'm feeling even more appreciative of Young Decorator. Sounds like he's charging a fraction of what your guys are quoting.
Mr F and I can decorate but, with Mr F working (more than) full time it's been painfully slow progress. All the leaky windows forced our arms really. The place was in such a state after last winter we had to get something done more quickly.

Sounds like a sensible decision for you Fortune. I can say from experience it is MUCH easier painting now while there's no furniture or anything in the rooms! Although we probably should have painted the kitchen before they put the units in today but hey ho... I suspect our builder was charging his usual hourly rate to do the decorating, definitely worth it for the building work, but not for the painting - a young decorator sounds much cheaper!8

I may end up having to do my own decorating (not a huge amount) because I can't find anyone locally do it - and being time poor it's one of the things I'm happy to pay someone to do properly.8

We would be firmly in the “get a man in” camp here - we don’t enjoy DIY and decorating, we’re competent, but not especially good at it, and (most importantly) we can afford to, which in my book is several outstanding reasons to pay someone who makes their living from that sort of thing!Cheery you’re probably right about the builder charging his usual rate - I suppose he would, wouldn’t he!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡
