Cheery, you said that you 'don't do much' but I am often exhausted just reading your lists! Give yourself credit for what you DO achieve rather than beating yourself up over what you don't. It's all very well concentrating our view on the top of the mountain, but sometimes we need to stop and realise how far we have actually come . . .
Thank goodness for heating and lighting, especially as the weather has turned much cooler.
Son has discovered a very wet wall in his kitchen after recent heavy rain so is awaiting a visit from a structural engineer. The freeholder is utterly uninterested and told him to sort it out himself.
I'm utterly rubbish at DIY, don't spend enough time on decent prep and am forever unhappy with the results. These days, we mostly pay someone to do it. I'm also not great a budgeting although hubby tries to remember to check how we are doing most months and sometimes wanders in to tell me that 'we are spending too much'.
I thought of you and your covid studies this morning when I absolutely failed to get enough blood for my antibody test (during an active infection). I tried all the tricks but just wouldn't bleed - despite the fact that I would usually bleed like stink if I pricked my finger! It's not difficult!

Thank you all xxx
A sad day yesterday - as expected, we had to have Rusty put to sleep. We went with the tiniest glimmer of hope, as Monday the vet had said we'd be able to day xrays etc if necessary, but she's lost a lot of weight in those 4 days (down from 2kg a couple of weeks ago, to 1.8 on Monday, to 1.6 yesterday). Clearly a blockage somewhere, her crop hadn't emptied since they flushed it and gave her Critical Care stuff on Monday, and a variety of other symptoms that I won't spoil your breakfast with.
Always hard to say goodbye, and you always torture yourself thinking whether there was anything else you could have done at any stage in the process, but it's done now. It was hard to decide whether to stay in for the deed itself, as the others we've had put to sleep have all been since Covid and we've not been allowed in anyway. Now they only allow one person in for consultations, which is always me, so I did go in for the consultation, but then the vet came out to talk to both of us, and I didn't go back in for the end. Again I'll keep thinking about whether I should have done.
We did have a nice cup of tea by the canal on the way home, and then invited ourselves round to a friend's house - they made tea and had a few silent garden fireworks which was very nice, and stopped us endlessly dwelling.
I'l full of cold today and feel rotten. Had a sore throat developing on Thursday, yesterday felt rough but had had no sleep and was crying and sniffling much of the day anyway, and today it's a full blown cold, just in time for my week off.
Not expecting anything from myself today. I'm meant to be driving to my sister's at some point so we can walk 6 miles for a virtual race, but we're leaving that open over the weekend and I might go tomorrow when this has passed a bit.
Money things...
* Realised I'd still not paid the garage bill! 😮
* Builder sent invoice for apprentice woman for October. Not sent his own invoice, but since we're not far off the end maybe he'll send us an actual total in a couple of weeks when his stuff is just and we're just waiting for the kitchen fitting?

Sorry to hear about Rusty. You did do all you could for her. You gave her a lovely few years where she could roam to her hearts content. Don’t beat yourself up.
Hope you feel better soon. My Son started with a sore throat then a bad cold. My husband caught it now has a cough. Scared to let him out with a cough these days. Not covid we do test regularly. Anyway enjoy your week off xx2025 Decluttering 10472⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

ahh Cheery so sorry to hear about Rusty - as you say it is always incredibly tough to say goodbye to any pet, but you clearly did absolutely everything you could for her - more than the majority of folk I suspect. Also, in terms of doubting yourself, you followed your instincts for what felt right at the time, and those instincts were almost certainly spot on. Had it been the right thing for you to go back in with her then your instinct would have told you that, instead.Hope the cold b*ggers off soon - there are some full on stinkers about this year aren’t there.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Very sad news about Rusty chicken. She had a lovely life with you - one she would have lost if you hadn't have taken her on. Sending hugs.

Rusty was a lucky little rescue hen for sure, Cheery. Although it is hard when we lose them you must remember that you both did everything you could for her that was possible. Definitely, one very much loved and cared for ex-battery hen, bless her.
