Hope so greenbee, although yes I do know that feeling! At the minute visitors are definitely outside 😂 These ones might want to wash up plates etc, but the sink by the back door has no hot water (and is currently housing a giant mound of chicken related paraphernalia anyway) so I've had to put all our dishes away off the other sink - something that rarely happens! 😮
Definitely reckon you should host an MSE weekend away Vix, you know, just so you can check your facilities are suitable for visitors 😉😁😂9 -
I'm afraid that Mr hb is much more sociable than me, my tolerance for other people is limited. Mind you, I have the excuse that I need to go and rest, so that gives me chance to escape if needed. We have just the one spare room and no outside space since moving to this flat so options are limited anyway. It's not difficult!
'Wander' - to walk or move in a leisurely manner.
'Wonder' - to feel curious.6 -
Well we have had an utterly lovely time with our visitors! They have been the perfect visitors actually - brought all their food, didn't expect anything from us, happily entertained themselves all day and discovered new exciting things locally to tell us about, and had a grand old time. Perfect!
Of course they got completely rained on yesterday, and now they've gone the sun is shining... but they did get some sunshine while they were here too...
I am having a grumpy and hormonal day 🙄 Fortunately my last day at work before another fortnight off 😁 However I realised at 3pm that someone was meant to send me something to comment on last week and they hadn't. I emailed, and they finally sent it at 5. I was expecting just a quick proofread, but actually there is a fundamental problem with it that means I'm not actually happy to have my name on it 😮 I know they've got to submit it in the next couple of days, and I refuse to check emails while I'm off, so as much as it pained me to do it, I just had to say "I don't think you've done xxx - if this is the case and you haven't, then you'll have to take my name off" and then disappear for a fortnight with no discussion 😮
Suspect that may have annoyed them... and I've probably burned a few bridges... and if I'd not been about to go and them have a short deadline we could have discussed it... but that's all their fault, not mine.
I do wish it hadn't been the last thing I'd done before my holiday though 🙄
Hey ho. Might go and sit with the chickens for 10 mins and then have a bath 😁10 -
That doesn't sound a pleasant boundary to have to make, but it also sounds like a *necessary* one. It can definitely feel sh*tty in the moment, but a few months down the line, I bet it feels very different.
And now you have more holibob! Yay! That's the focus2023: the year I get to buy a car8 -
@Cheery_Daff - strangely, I always found that telling people to take my name off stuff made them get their act together and fix the problem. So hopefully that will happen.

Sadly greenbee there is no fixing this - it's something they either got advance permission for (which is fine) or they didn't (in which case there's no way of doing it retrospectively and I'm taking my name off). I'll find out in a couple of weeks!
But yes KC sometimes boundaries are necessary and I always feel better doing what I feel comfortable with.5 -
Ohboy, a boundary-work colleague behaviour issue, guaranteed to make my stomach cartwheel and nerves all fire at onceYou handled that well Cheery, I wish my auto-setting response could be similar to that!Holibobs!! Yay!!!8

Although, I would warn against this as HR take a dim view when they receive this from the recipient sans any of the nagging emails you've sent over the preceeding 4 months.
just in case you need to know:
HWTHMBO - He Who Thinks He Must Be Obeyed (gained a promotion, we got Civil Partnered Thank you Steinfeld and Keidan)
DS#1 - my twenty-five-year old son
DS#2 - my twenty -one son6 -
That's an excellent phrase FA, although I'm not sure I'd ever be brave enough to say it to someone! I do often say it to myself when deciding how to react to something though. Wise words!
Fortunately this isn't someone I've worked with before (and am probably not likely to work with again now...). They're not even in my dept, which made it easier. If it had been someone I work with all the time I would have done a lot more wobbling!
Anyway, that is going out of my mind for the next fortnight now, along with fretting about the fact that we still haven't received the funding bid decision, and now won't find out til 23rd at the earliest as I'm refusing to check emails 😁
Started the day in the cafe, and now I'm running a bath as yesterday's hormones have turned into today's stomach ache 🙄 Still, there was nowt much on the list for today anyway, and I have a new book to read, so once the pain has subsided I imagine it will be a nice way to start the holidays 😁

Projects on the list for the holidays...
1. Prepare for builders
(a) paint kitchen ceiling
(b) remove bedroom ceiling
(c) figure out what to do with kitchen floor
(d) figure out what to do about my office space (which will be in the midst of the building zone, so in reality I need to shift for the duration)
2. Mr Cheery's birthday
An assortment of presents to plan, make or buy before Thursday 😮
3. Scythe meadow
Preferably without doing my elbow in like I did last year
Plus an assortment of things that are more tasks than projects - clearing the windbreak area, planting out leeks and sweetcorn, fitting extra mesh to the chicken run extension (and painting the inside - probably should add that as a project), general tidying so house doesn't feel overwhelming while the builders are here.
We've also got one set of friends to visit a couple of hours away, another 3 who said they'd come here at some point (but made no specific arrangements so that needs coordinating), and another set coming tomorrow. And Mr Cheery's (as yet undecided) birthday adventure, and I would REALLY like it if we could get away for a night...
Need a day of organising I think! But not today...7
