themadvix said:You’re very handy Cheery, I’m sure you could have a go at servicing yourself with a Haynes manual (if they do one for your car -it’s definitely not a given these days).
Haynes Manuals nowadays seem to comprise of "you need to go to a vehicle workshop to get this done" as a lot of the newer cars are computer controlled and apparently 'the computer needs resetting' when you service/fix the car.
IIRC you can buy computer code readers from the internet that plug into a special slot in the car (where the block box goes if you have one for insurance), and you can look up the codes the internet to see what they mean, but a lot of them are manufacturers codes that are indecipherable to non-mechanics.
A quick look shows that @ldi are doing them at the moment https://www.aldi.co.uk/auto-xs-car-fault-code-reader/p/707370407397200

LOL - it appears that Haynes manuals have one entitled 'cooking for men' - OH is not sure if he should laugh or be outraged given that he's been our chief cook since 2016! - LOL

Ha, happy conversation RT!
Mr Cheery's pension has arrived, so I've transferred the £580 that was previously going towards mortgage overpayments to the kitchen fund instead. That now stands at
£2951.24
I'll add July's matched betting money which will hopefully JUST tip it over £3k. I've not done that much MB this month - I've been focusing on trying to get some actual jobs done, and also spending quite a bit oftime watching escape to the chateau 😂 Ridiculous, but much needed down time for the brain. Might see if I can kick it back in over August while I'm off.
Today's plan...
* change chicken bedding
* move pallets in the garden
* paint kitchen ceiling
* move piles of clothes and blankets out of new bedroom so we can take the ceiling down
* pay garage invoices
* pay kitchen deposit 😁😁7 -
Cheery, waiting for news about your funding does sound like a Schrodinger's cat situation! I hope you get good news soon.
My car's due for service and MOT in August, so I need to get on and book that on Monday. We've recently spent nearly £2000 getting Mr hb's car back on the road (new automatic gearbox) so I really hope mine doesn't need much! It needs a sensor resetting as it is convinced I have a soft tyre, even though I don't.
Being able to service cats could be useful, although I don't think that Sky or Alfie would co-operate.
It's not difficult!

Crikey hb, that's an expensive car bill! 😮 fingers crossed yours doesn't need much!
We have had a lovely day 😊 spent a couple of hours last night clearing all the building stuff out of the garden, and this morning strimmed everywhere, and it's actually nice to be in now, not a massive mess. Also had a good go round of the house, so that feels quite nice too.
Had some visitors today who haven't been before so it was nice to show them around. Doing that reminds me that actually it's pretty special out here 😊
After they went I did a bit more weeding in the windbreak, but I'm pretty tired now so I'm eating leftover picnic and downloading the latest issue of Country Living magazine on the library app 😁😁6 -
Morning MSE chums 😊
Been swimming this morning - today is the start of the full price gym membership (£35 a month). I paid £10 for half of July and used it 8 times, making it £1.25 a visit. So my aim is to keep the cost at £1.25 a visit - meaning I need to go 12 times in August.
Currently tally = 1 visit costing £35 😮😂
Exciting message this morning - a friend I used to live with but haven't seen for years has asked if she can come and camp with one of her children on Wednesday. Of course! They are having a self sufficient camping adventure, so bring and sorting all their own food which suits me fine 😁 Will be lovely to see them, and show them round.
Very glad I strimmed and scythed over the weekend - the camping spot hasn't been used yet this year but just needs a rake and a little bit more strimming.
I'll do that tomorrow as we've also got people coming over for tea tonight 😮😁 a veritable flurry of visitors this week!8 -

Clearly I would have to go 28 times to get the cost down to £1.25, and that's not going to happen!! 12 times takes me to £2.91 a time, which is still fine. I'm still going to work out the cost per visit each time I go to encourage me to go more!
*cheery skulks back to her day job*8 -
That's good to note the cost per visit, that'll soon show you what's what
Enjoy the visits!2023: the year I get to buy a car8 -
Thanks KC!
Ooh, remembered I checked the list of high value premium bonds winners this morning! Unsurprisingly I'm not on it 🙄😂 But I was pleased to see one of the new millionnaires has just £1001 in premium bonds, bought last summer - what a nice surprise that will have been! 😊
List of all prizes out tomorrow - fingers crossed my winning-every-month streak continues! 😁8
