Cheery's country living adventure

Ooh, I could definitely be tempted by a huge one, this is only about 50cm by 60cm (it's still ace though!)
KC, swimming was just at the local leisure centre - little 25m pool which suits me fine. One wall is floor to ceiling windows looking out into the trees in the park which is nice. I'm not a remotely competent swimmer, and would probably never go wild swimming - I have a lot of friends who love it but it's really not my thing.
Booked a zumba class for tomorrow evening 😁 definitely getting my money's worth out of the £10-for-the-rest-of-July deal at the gym. So far I've done
* body conditioning
* indoor cycling
* stretch class
* swimming
Zumba booked for tomorrow, and an old fashioned legs, bums & tums session for Friday 😂 Only another four classes before the end of the month and it will have worked out at £1 a session! 😁
Of course it goes up to £35 a month after that, but still not too bad if I use it regularly. the proof will come when I go back to work next week...9 -
Cherry, I'm glad that you now have your kitchen ordered - do you have a date for installation?
Well done for tolerating the MRI - I have had several for my back and was very glad that I didn't need to have my head right in the machine. The longest one was for my feet, they couldn't get decent images and kept me there for 2.5 hours, trying various things. I can't have them anymore, due to metalwork in my back, and am not at all sorry!
It remains in the high 20's here although supposed to cool down and rain by the weekend. My choir are singing at a wedding tomorrow, I'm hoping it will be cooler in the Minster (Cheery, is your mum still involved in her 'signing choir'?).
It's not difficult!

'Wonder' - to feel curious.6 -
No date yet hb - well builder said early-mid August but I won't believe it til they're actually here - my guess is late August start, and actual kitchen installed in September (there's quite a bit of other stuff to do first!)
2.5 hours?! I do hope they only had your feet in the machine all that time and noy the rest of you 😮
My mum does occasionally do stuff with the choir I think but she moved house and is quite far away now. Shame really as she did enjoy it!
HOT again today. I did manage to get the side of the house painted first thing so that's a job ticked off - bought an extending pole for the roller thing yesterday which was just the thing. Not perfect, but I got most of the previously flaking paint off and it certainly looks better than it did! 😂 One of those things that nobody will notice now it's done but it did look rubbish before!
Then a friend came out for a few hours which was nice, although he's having a tough time. And we FINALLY got the roof on the chicken extension! 😁😁😁 So excited. It still needs the final bit of predator proofing but it's so exciting to see an almost finished space!
And I went to a zumba class 😮 I'd forgotten just how much arm waving was involved - after putting the roof on, and yesterday's first-swim-in-three-years my arms and shoulders are feeling rather well-used 😮
Got family visiting tomorrow, and Mr Cheery might have to nip to the dentist (an hour each way) as part of his tooth has fallen out this afternoon. There's always something, isn't there?! If it's not completely roasting, I'll get visitors to help me shift stones for round the bottom of the extension I think.
Right. Probably need to go to bed shortly!10 -

In other news - the pet cooling bed arrived today. How are people not talking about these things?? Why are they not marketed to humans?! Chickens won't go near the damn thing, but I've brought it to bed for a nap and it's BRILLIANT 😂 I'll definitely be sleeping on it tonight 😂 Highly recommend you all get yourselves down to the pet shop tomorrow before the end of the heatwave!
CD, I often stand on our cooling mat - neither Doggo, or The Pup are impressed. I also use an old microwavable puppy heat pad instead of a hot water bottle - stays warm all night!

Ha,that sounds like the perfect thing!
We have another set of visitors arriving shortly, so I've spent the morning cleaning and sorting and emptying, and setting up the seats outside. It's been misty all morning but it's starting to lift now. I'm grateful it's not ludicrously hot, but a little bit of sunshine would set off the view nicely 😂 Never satisfied!
At least it might be easier to put people to work now it's not sweltering...8 -
Much cooler here today too Cheery. Might actually get something done today 😊

Yes, we've got a load of weeding done, finished putting piles of stones round the bottom of the chicken run, and lopped down a massive bush outside the kitchen window. Never would have got half that done in the heat!7

So, noce day with visitors yesterday, and a functional trip to town afterwards. I woke at 2am and couldn't go back to sleep so ended up on the sofa (but actually slept quite well once I was there!)
Todaytheweather has been much more reasonable. Our favourite cafe opened again after a stint of being closed so we went for breakfast, then took yesterday's bush cuttings straight to the tip, got a new strap put on my watch before it fell off in the garden, and picked up some fruit.
Then I've spent the afternoon in the garden, turning the compost, and making a start on clearing round the fruit trees and bushes in our edible windbreak which are being overwhelmed with grass and nettles.
Made good progress but nowhere near finished!
We've been trying to clean up the kitchen floor tiles. They're terrazzo, and have been under stick on vinyl floor tiles for many years, so have kind of rusty coloured lines where the seams of the vinyl tiles were. We've tried soap, scrubbing, baking soda, and a propriety brand of 'specialist terrazzo tile cleaners (which cost £12 and was about as effective as soap). Mr Cheery resorted to sanding them with the electric orbital sander today 😮 it seems to be working, but takes about half an hour and a couple of sanding pads to do a single tile so I'd prefer a simple solution!
Might break out the bleach, not tried that yet.
Any tips?! (Tips that don't just involve covering the floor with something else?!) 😂8 -
Ah, apparently I should be avoiding bleach, baking soda, and anything abrasive (including, presumably, electric sanders) 😂

Hey ho. The actual tile cleaner is having no effect, and I can't imagine I'll have made them any worse with my experiments so far (I will lay off the bleach though as that seems to break down the cement...)5 -
