Cheery's country living adventure

Cheery - that's a brilliant list! - Always the best place to start when organizing thoughts. I'm always amazed how much you pack into one day! Very impressive.
I'm about to sit down and plan out my quarterly for June/July/August along with two scenarios for moving house depending on projected closing dates! Also need to complete the legal paperwork so am pretending it is a work day. As soon as every thing is complete will reward myself with a little round of gardening.4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! Oh wow! Loving the lists - and the idea of a quarterly list frightens the life out of me
I've let a proper list go over the last few months, I've kind of had it in the back of my head and just got on with things. But this is really good!
Cheery, is there anything else you can finish off in the kitchen before you start on the bedroom, or does it feel right in the greater scheme of things to do another ceiling as soon as you finish the kitchen?2023: the year I get to buy a car5 -
Nowt else for us to do in the kitchen before the builders get here KC! Exciting! Once the ceiling is done, it's just a case of ordering a new kitchen, which is more organising-and-internet than DIY.
Getting there!
Excellent quarterly planning RT! I love a bit of planning 😂 You MUST start a MFW diary when you've got your mortgage so we can all come and cheer you on and you can waffle in ludicrous detail like the rest of us do 😁
Banks and YNAB done this morning. I've been entering things into the app as I spend them for the last week or two so it was very easy. Apparently we've spent £346 in cafes this month 😮😮 I mean, it's our only form of entertainment really, especially at the minute, but we don't usually spend this much. However, it's not something I'm going to curtail for now - Mr Cheery is struggling quite a bit and a cafe trip in the morning is doing him good. I'll probably reign it in to tea rather than tea and toast/cake every time - that will help!
Anyway, must dash - we're off to the cafe... 🙄😂10 -
Cheery - can you count some of the cafe trips in the medical/health category? - as you say mental well-being is just as important as reigning in the pennies! Over lock-down last year, I pilfered a bit from our medical budget for a much needed take-away, it did us a world of good during a low point!
PS - thank-you for the encouragement to start a diary - I've been on these boards for a good few years, but never felt the urge to do anything but visit the comfort of other's ramblings. I'll have to figure out how to keep a habit of posting regularly on it, maybe even once a week? Details & shared knowledge have definitely enriched my life, so it's probably time to give back 😉4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! Could swap categories, but quite happy to keep in the cafe category for now. Cafes were always a bit of a sanity saver for us anyway. At any rate, my medical category barely ever has anything in it! Dentist is a separate category, I have free prescriptions, Mr Cheery is on a prescription pre payment thing...
Yes, do start your own diary! I find i can't help myself posting on it 🙄😮 You have to follow your own diary though so it pops up in the list when someone else posts! And then it doesn't matter if you post weekly, daily, or just now and then.
So, cafe is done, I picked up some garden canes on the way back so can finish planting out my beans etc. Mr Cheery's probably out of action now for the rest of the day, so I'm going to let the chickens out and spend the day planting, leveling the breeze blocks we started yesterday, and I might even get the strimmer out and make the place feel a bit less like a jungle 😮7 -
RT, gosh yes, you *have* to start a diary, you know you want to
Seriously, I don't know where I'd have been without a diary all these years - certainly not where I am now.
Cheery, obviously, it's a lot on cafes - but Mr Cheery really sounds like he's suffering, which I'm sorry to read, and the potential hit on cutting the trips is absolutely a no-no. Your idea of just doing teas, rather than tea and cakes, might fly - in fact, that makes me think of another type of trip: could you make your own traybakes of whatever you like, freeze them, and take them to a local panoramic viewpoint? I bake normal family size cakes (a JO lockdown recipe I use has 800g of ingredients!) so I literally cut into portions and freeze it myself.
Such good news that your kitchen is nearly done! Lovely stuff.2023: the year I get to buy a car5 -
The builder did say he'd be a week or two late starting... but I hope they will at least still start in July. Getting close now!!
I've had a happy day in the garden with the chickens. Planted out some more beans, put in a load of stakes, shifted some stuff, then once the chickens were in spent a couple of hours strimming. I have a love/hate relationship with strimming, but it does make the place look a lot better!6 -
Happy days in the garden are always good.Ooooh I'd forgotten about agent million visiting, would be nice for my first win. I also thought of you the other day actually Cheery when I was using shears to do the worst of my lawn as the lawnmower is broken!June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!4

Ha, I've certainly done that before Cath! Bit of a job here though...
Had a trawl through the list of hugh value Premium Bonds winners and I'm not on it, more's the pity! Three in my county, but none of them me. Oh well! Have to wait til tomorrow to see if we won a smaller prize - I've won something every month so far but I can't imagine that will last for long!

Off to take Mr Cheery to his hospital appointment today, and he'll be in there for a good couple of hours so I've arrange to meet a friend for a cuppa up the road 😊 it's not far from our old house, so I might sneak in a few of my charity shop old haunts too!7 -
