Sorry for your loss @dawnybabes thank you for taking the time to shine a light on the situation. That is appalling that it is taking so long to receive your money and very sobering.Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent

Thank you all ofor your insightful comments, and I'm so sorry about your DH dawnybabes. What a distressing time, and shocking to hear how long things are taking.
This is all so important, and we've put it off for so long, but I'm determined to do something about it all this year - accounts, plans, wills etc.
You raise an interesting point about dying at the same time KC. Apparently, if we do die at exactly the same time (unlikely even in the same car crash), I'm younger, so Mr Cheery will be deemed to have died first, and everything he has will deem to have passed to me. Not an issue if we had kids and were leaving eg the house to them - but in our case, it would currently mean Mr Cheery's family would get nothing, and the house would go to... my mum?! My sister?? I actually have no idea!! 😮
And on a lighter note - I don't envy whoever has to sort out my matched betting accounts 😱😂😂😂
Definitely need to work through all this stuff properly.7 -
When thinking about will etc, it is worth getting Power of Attorney sorted too so that someone can make decisions if either/both of you are unable to do so due to accident, illness etc.
Also, for anyone not married, remember that long-term relationships are not recognised when someone dies intestate. So everything could go to relatives who are hardly ever seen, for example, leaving the partner with nothingIt's not difficult!

I didn't know about that assumption, Cheery! Good heavens. That might be all the more reason to make a will. I made my will when even my dad was still alive, and it was a more complex family situation. Now, it would just go equally to my brother and sister, and if either of them were predeceased, that part would go to their immediate offspring equally (I must check that my brother's kids wouldn't dominate legally, because there's six grandchildren there, and none yet for my sister).

OMG that made me laugh 😂😂😂 what a horrendous thought 😂

We need to sort our wills out too. We started them years ago (through a Which deal) but couldn't decide (agree?) how to split the estate so never got any further! No doubt, we'll make them, get it sorted and then move and it'll all change again!Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

(Since you know me from a former life, and there has been no announcement elsewhere in public, you may not know that Mr Cheery and I sneaked off and got married about 3 years ago without telling anyone in advance, not even our parents 😁 So fortunately this will not apply to us at least!)
Lots for all of us to think about, it seems...6 -

Thanks hb!
Looks like we're not the only ones putting things off SC... 🙄
Another long day here. Bit of fitful work, and then a trip to the vets - 3+ hours round trip plus they were running late so we ended up out for about 4.5 hours, not ideal. Nor was spending £220 😮 But we have (stupidly) committed ourselves to paying for whatever ludicrous variety of vet care they need.
Thank goodness there's literally not that much a vet can do for a chicken so there is a limit to the amount it'll cost, although we have two now who have each breezed past £600 in their lifetimes... 😮😮😮
Anyway, moving swiftly on...
We raked through our various car searches this evening and I've put together a 'manual spreadsheet' (on a piece of paper) and we've chosen the top two that seem to meet both of our requirements, and are, coincidentally, both in Sheffield. Going to ring them tomorrow and see if we can see at least one on Sunday. Need to think about cash - can only get £250 a day put of the current account and have run out of days. MB account is with a different bank - I'll need to dig out the pin number.
What else? Mr Cheery's second jab is first thing tomorrow, then our pals are coming back to do some more work on the chicken run.
I rang another kitchen firm today (a local one this time) and they left a message while i was driving, so will ring them back tomorrow too.
A few too many things going on at once for my liking, but at least there's a sense of progress!11 -
