It'll be worth it Cheery! And just think how much lower those heating bills will be once the ceiling is insulated...9
-
Ha, yes I confess that was at the forefront of my mind as I was deciding to stuff in a double layer of insulation greenbee! 😂9
-
Sometimes those end goals are needed to get through the fidly bits 🤣
the beams will too be worth it in the end cherry and it will be so much easier when you have something that resembles a kitchen to use. Especially if you are going to have more home grown produce next year and your going to need to make jam, flavoured gin etc... a kitchen would definitely help!

Cheery_Daff said:As you can see, we're doing the most faffy thing imaginable, trying to have visible beams, which means attaching small battens to each side of all of those joists, cutting taffy bits of insulation, and loads of small bits of plasterboard which need to be glued to the battens and filler shoved round the edges. Not sure whose stupid idea this was 🙄😂

Thank you lovely people, you're all right of course - the end goal will definitely be worth it! What's mostly keeping me going is what we made our old house look like to sell it
It took us forever, but we did enjoy SOME of the work and it was extremely satisfying in the end. And this is better, because we actually get to keep it at the end! Don't have the same time pressure... but that's a good thing I think.
No DIY is being done today though as the sun is shining! It's pretty windy out there though - we've got a load of washing out, and also all the blankets that have been in the outdoor shelter are blowing about in the breeze on the line too, freshening them up a bit.
Had a little trip to the cafe this morning, and it was SO nice. We do it quite often, but I often take work - I'm off at the minute so it was nice to just sit in the corner and read, and do a bit of plotting and scheming with my notebookCollected enough stamps to have a free cuppa too!
Just did a couple of studies on prolific while I was drinking my tea, so that's another £1.70 in the pot.
Payday this week, so I checked my payslip. First lot of strike money has been deducted, but it comes off the gross amount, so take home isn't as drastic as I thought. September payday is when we go up an increment though, so that should be roughly another £70 a month - going to try and stash that in the mortgage pot (although at first it'll just cover the shortfall from the strike).
Gosh, I can't tell you how grateful I am for MSE over the years. Well, MSE and a decent-paying jobI HATED that feeling of checking the bank several times a day when it got near payday, and sometimes finding myself at the end of the overdraft. Utterly HATED it, and I never want to go back there. Feeling very grateful today. xxx
Right - speaking of grateful - I'm very grateful for today's sunshine, so I'd best get back out in it!

Enjoy the sunshine cheery, but also make sure that you plan to do the bits you need to make the house more comfortable during the winter. It's easy to live with holes and draughts and basic facilities when the weather is nice. It's not so pleasant when it's cold and damp and you're snowed in! You may not have the same time pressure, but don't leave it so long that you stop seeing the stuff that needs doing. You want your home to be a nice place to live, where you can enjoy being rather than wanting to escape it = this year has taught us that we don't always have the option of escape!
Which reminds me, I need to get in touch with the kitchen fitter about delivery dates, and then make some decisions about worktops, splashbacks, the sink, tap and cookerhood. And new external doors.9 -
We've not had a kitchen since last October greenbee so this won't be the first winter 😂 and also it looks to be raining for much of the rest of my time off so plenty of time for DIY 🙄
You're quite right about escape though - and I am very much looking forward to being able to sit at a dining table again!
Today though I've been enjoying sitting about in the garden shelter, just reading. Something I rarely do and very much needed!9 -
Think you’re achieving a lovely balance on your holiday cheery.7

Just reminding you, as this is now year SEVEN since I ripped my kitchen out. The floor went down 2.5 years ago, and the kitchen will (hopefully!) finally go in sometime in October. If I can make my mind up about worktops, splashbacks, sink, tap and cooker hood it might even be finished this year...

Crikey greenbee!! 😮😮 get making those decisions!! Hope you get your kitchen before I get mine in that case! 😮 xx
Had a nice day today, lots of it outside 😊 Weeded the veg beds (with the chickens shut out, grumpily circling the perimeter trying - and failing - to get in), shifted a load of hay as mulch onto the windbreak, and generally pottered about, as well as sitting reading and scheming for a while. Tired today, so didn't even get round to any scything this evening, shocking!
Did a quick Hoover, ran a bath, then had a quick look for a new car for my mother - hers was written off this week when some idiot in a works van drove into the back of her while she was sat at a roundabout 🙄 very grateful all concerned were ok.
Anyway, a job for tomorrow I think. Going to have a bath now and stop thinking about other people's problems for a while!11
