Cheery's country living adventure

I think Mr Cheery might have been a bit optimistic expecting them to get it right first time
Thanks to you talking about this, I've spent a bit more time looking at my pensions and now know what my DB pension(s) projections are (well, were, from last year) and have got round to adding up all my other pots. Let's just say I'm not going to be living a life of luxury in retirement, or retiring early unless I do something about it fairly quickly! So I now have a plan to use up my carry over in the next couple of years and then focus on paying down the mortgage so costs go down and then look for other places to put long-term savings.8 -
Ha, Mr Cheery was not remotely optimistic that it would be easy! Sadly the first phone call suggested otherwise... hey ho! I'm still optimistic that it'll all work out in the end.
Glad it's prompted you to sort your figures greenbee. Love that about the forum, I feel like we're all spurring each other on!
Checked the LPG tank to see how careful we need to be over the weekend - very glad to see it's been filled! Don't seem to have left us any paperwork, but we do usually notice the tanker coming down the drive!

That’s good news about the LPG fairy having visited (can’t imagine the delivery driver would appreciate being called a fairy, mind!).
I’m with you, optimistic, and hope that all the paperwork for the pension gets sorted soon. Have a good weekend!Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Exciting news Cheery, I hope the paperwork comes through OK. Several of my colleagues took retirement recently and I've been hearing about the various trails and tribulations of getting the correct numbers and paperwork from them. It sounds very complicated or is it just bureaucratic?ElmoR xx7

Sounding good, Cheery! Erm ... about the LPG, I suppose there's no chance the indicator was having an off day and showed full when it wasn't? Sorry!

I have a watchman on my oil tank, which connects wirelessly to an indicator in my office. Apparently you can get ones that connect to an app... although they’re not wildly accurate! There might be something similar for LPG.
ETA ... this was the first thing that came up on a search... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/362875590163?ul_ref=https%253A%252F%252Frover.ebay.com%252Frover%252F1%252F710-53481-19255-0%252F1%253Fff3%253D2%2526pub%253D5575376664%2526toolid%253D10001%2526campid%253D5338268676%2526customid%253DEAIaIQobChMI3aOe-p_T5wIVyrHtCh3GpAadEAQYDyABEgKdGPD_BwE%2526lgeo%253D1%2526item%253D362875590163%2526srcrot%253D710-53481-19255-0%2526rvr_id%253D2299551359412%2526rvr_ts%253D483182731700ada1dfc05b4bfff59629&ul_noapp=true7 -
Ooh interesting greenbee, thank you! Will investigate.
Eek KC, you gave me a moment of paranoia there! But it's a dial on top of the tank itself and VERY unlikely it would have gone from almost empty to almost full for no reason. And there are suspicious giant tyre marks down the muddy sides of the drive... Just logged in to the online system to check - it's not been updated but our status does say 'on delivery' and it was apparently scheduled for yesterday so I suspect just not been updated yet. For now I'm going to assume it HAS been done and deal with it if it hasn't!
Wind is picking up here... Let the chickens out this morning, but they didn't go far, and we shut them back in again about 9.30 as it was just so rainy and vile - they would have spent the whole time just either in their own cosy run or hanging around in our tiny porch so at least shut in the run they're warm and safe.
I feel about as grey and gloomy as the weather today... Overwhelmed and grumpy about everything, and even breakfast in the cafe hasn't helped! I've only got ONE episode of Call the Midwife left so I'm currently feeling quite bereft. Might go and watch that and sew some more of Mr Cheery's hat, see if that shakes me out of my funk...6 -
Sorry to freak you out temporarily when you're already feeling grumpy **airkisses each side of Cheery's face** I'm sure its real if you've got mystery tyre tracks
The weather really isn't great, is it - I'm so glad I stayed home today, I very nearly went down to the coast again. I don't watch Call The Midwife, but I've recently discovered Inspector Montalbano, which is like Morse with sunshine, shrugs and even more wine

I'm doing kitchen planning now @Cheery_Daff. I've been putting it off for ages, but I really need to get on with it so I can get an idea of ALL the costs involved. There will be electrics and decorating to do, plus worktops, sink, taps, water filter and fitting. Oh, and a splashback... I keep forgetting about that! I'm just trying to work out what's going to live where (which means remembering what I've got in all the crates...).
I also want to work out some space for keeping my sewing stuff so I have access to it, and I'd like to move my music into the office so I can keep things out. But I can't get into the office... it seems I'm constantly moving things round!6 -
Hiya Cheery - not like you to have the glums, you’re my positivity hero - hope they pass soon. This flipping weather won’t be helping- not easy to get out and about to do mood lifting things 😱
I’ve just had a catch up of your diary and you are seriously on point with the finance stuff, you’ve inspired me to get a grip on the small stuff ( I’ve had so many £5 ‘milk trips’ recently🙄).Great news on Mr C’s pension - I too am in retirement calculating mode and it’s giving me brain freeze 😱😂😂. PP xxOriginal mortgage £112,000 . Final payment due August 2027.
Mortgage neutral achieved August 2020 - 7 years early!!!8
