Morning MSE chums! Wonder what today will bring?
Well, already it's brought a rather nippy walk in the snow. Very pretty out there, and the snow is all pretty and not really causing any trouble, roads are well gritted, but gosh it's cold. And in related news, I finally got round to checking the LPG tank gauge - eek, it's only about 13%! I just logged in to the online account to alert them to this, but it seems it's all under control - on their panel our estimation is showing as 17%, our order was placed (automatically) on 1st Feb, and they will be with us before the 18th (next Tuesday). Phew!
Hmm - snowing again now. Mr Cheery has gone over to the city today so fingers crossed he makes it in one piece (I'm sure he will - I was there yesterday and there was barely any snow for most of the journey, just the last few miles which were well gritted). I'm meant to be nipping out to collect my prescription so quite glad he's left me the car with the snow tyres on, although quite frankly if this carries on I might ignore it til tomorrow!
Right best get on with some work. Need to have a bit of a tidy up today too but will do that later. Going to shut myself in the study with the electric heater on to save some of the gas just in case!9 -

Thanks EH! Friday Slacking not super imminent but I reckon definitely looming somewhere not too far over the horizon, yay!
What is less 'yay' is our stupid boiler, which keeps turning itself on (except for the occasions when it turns itself off). I wouldn't mind if it wasn't for the afore-mentioned running out of LPG situation. I spent the whole of yesterday confined to my study with an electric heater and didn't put the heating on til Mr Cheery came home at 11pm - we turned it off at 1am when I went to bed and then I got up again at 6 (urgh) and it had turned itself on. Grrr!
Nice and unusually warm while I'm getting ready for work! 😂😂 But we really don't have the gas this week yo be heating the house while we're both in bed, pah!!
In related news, I see we were in a very similar running-out-of-gas situation on exactly the same week last year. Oh dear!! Really do need to keep an eye on the damn thing more regularly at this time of year!8 -
Anyway, fortunately a boiler geezer is coming to replace the thermostat and have a look at it this very morning - thank goodness!8

Hope boiler man can get it sorted! It’s not really the time of year to be running out of gas seeing as the weather has finally decided to get cold! Have you still got snow on the ground?Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Oh no! I hope the boiler man gets it sorted for you.Mortgage Balance as of July 2025 £14,900.
Starting Mortgage Balance (June 2019) £72,000.
Aiming to be mortgage free by my 40th birthday, June 2026!6 -
Good luck with the boiler guy this morning - and I'm loving the positive use of electronics, with that automatic order already being placed, super efficient.
2023: the year I get to buy a car8 -
Still had a bit of snow on the fields yesterday Vix but it's all gone this morning. Roads have been fine. Just spotted a heron taking off from one of our fields! Never seen a heron round here before - must be really soggy...
Boiler man was cheery, although he didn't have the right thermostat after all so he'll have to come back another time. Seems confident he can sort us out though, and in the meantime we just have to keep turning it off at the wall!
I think I'd feel better if we had some kind of smart meter for the LPG - apparently they do exist but we don't have one. At the minute they schedule our orders based on an estimate, what they *think* we've used, unless I tell them otherwise, which I forget to do... Hey ho! Back in the study with the electric heater today although we'll likely put the real heating on when Mr Cheery gets up in a bit8
