Moneysaving aspects of trip to Milton Keynes. I checked out lastminute etc, thinking of the cashback, but the cheapest central-ish hotel is £60, and a central guest house on the MK website is £35 - so I'm going to go for the guest house, particularly as I'll only be there for about 10 hours (arriving about 10.30 at night, leaving 8.30am to get in the convention). Difficult snackwise/foodwise to economise, since I'll be leaving my own house at midday on Friday, but I'll do what I can with supermarket stuff rather than snack places.

I can't really afford to do it, i.e. the money for this will be coming from savings put by years ago, but really, I need something like this a couple of times a year, I don't have main holidays any more, life would be pure drudgery without a little something every now and again.

Talking about a tenuous James Marsters link. It would appear the spin off from Buffy The Vampire Slayer revolving around Anthony Head's character is going to happen after all.

Have you tried putting in a Priceline bid KC ?
I got the Marriott at Newcastle for £50 for next weekend on a 4 star bid (and have got Marriott in Manchester for the same price earlier this year) so a three star bid at £30 might work
EDIT Ooo found something with cashback have PM'd you

Hi Karmacat !! Only just found you diary, can't believe you didn't have one already !! Even more surprised to see your age, I thought you were in your twenties ;):D
    Mortgage Total: £51,549 / £75,000
    Mortgage Overpayments Pot £1079
  • Hi KC - great you've got your own diary, I'll be a frequent visitor! I was going to ask who the SG1 guy was, but thanks to the pics I know who you mean. I'm rubbish with names.

I really regret saving some money earlier this year that could have been spent on a once-in-a-lifetime event, so I say if it's going to give you memories you'll treasure, then go for it.

I'd put you up for the night, as we're not far from MK, but the OH might think it's a bit odd having DFW'ers stopping over :) Oh, and I missed the bit where KC tells us her age...

Hi Karmacat, welcome to dfw diaryness!

As for the sci-fi thing my sister and various other members of the family were huge buffy fans and went to a convention a few years back in brighton that david boreanez was doing. best day of her life I think. it was my cousins 16th birthday and my aunt told him and when my cousin got on stage to ask him her question he called her over to sit on the sofa with him. the poor girl was so overwhelmed she forgot her question!

It may cost a lot but like you say a treat once in a while that leaves everlasting memoried is worht it.

As for the james masters gossip I'll have to pass that onto my aunt who is crazy in love with him!

    enjoy the gardening x

Ooooh another diary :T ;) I don't know what I did before you all started your diaries (how sad do I sound) I'm a regular lurker, just post now and again on them (sometimes I feel like I'm intruding as you all seem to know each other so well) to give my two pennies worth :p

Your diaries seem to help keep me motivated and I love reading of people over coming obstacles and making such positive changes in their life.

So I hope your diary works as well for you as it seems to do for the other regulars.

Hi all! Just back from the post office - more James Marsters goss from wok boy, this is good.

duchy - I'd not even heard of priceline, I'll give that and quidco a try.

benbenandme - you realise for a comment like that about my age, I'll love you forever?! :rotfl: which is exactly what I said to the barman in Chicago who wanted to see my passport 8 years ago to check I was old enough to drink!

gettingthingsdone - glad the photos of Michael helped! They really have to be on my thread, since I'm such a fangrrrl. I haven't exactly said my age, but since I got my mortgage in 1987, it states a few things. Plus I recently confessed on another thread to growing up pre-decimalisation.

donner - thanks! You're a newbie, I know, but you can see from me starting this that even the regulars need to shake things up a bit in their dfw journey. And I'm definitely a regular!

And lynseyjane! Hi! You're someone *I* look up to as a regular, how cool for you to come to my diary! I remember that convention that David Boreanaz brought to Brighton. I don't live that far away, and I would *certainly* have gone, I think he's great, v sparkly (and also v good looking) but I was still actually debt-free at the time, as opposed to a dfw, and I was in America myself!

Off now to have something to eat and then finally *finally* get out into the garden.

thanks for your post mae - you're not intruding at all, and I know it looks like we all know each other, but honestly its just from taking part in the posting. Keep coming on here, and keep posting - I've seen some of your posts, your name is familliar to me, and thats all it needs really. Good to see you! And I agree with what a diary does, btw, I sort of resisted it for as long as I could, and then thought, well, I want to focus like that. And thats why its here. Without it, for instance, duchy wouldn't have known to mention priceline to me: its practical as well as emotional support.

    Bye for now!
