Yes a zero hours contract means there’s no guarantee of shifts. However, asking me to go in and train the new person to essentially do my job on the shifts I had last year and was presuming I’d get the this year was a kick in the teeth.
I’ve spoken to the new manager and explained my position and thoughts. Watch this space!

It's pretty outrageous morally at least that they have enticed you to sign a contract on the assumption that things are likely to continue much as before, when in fact it seems they that MAY just have wanted to ensure that you would train the new person before them basically putting you on the back burner with no shifts as a regular thing…It rather sounds as though they want someone who would be on standby for covering things like holiday and sickness, but that doesn't give you any degree of certainty does it. Of course, where you are, this is a great time of year to start picking up seasonal work elsewhere, isn't it!

I put my largest big girl pants on and had a chat about how I was feeling and wondering if there was a position for me. The upshot is that I have got shifts (that saying careful what you wish for) going forwards.
Yesterday was another lovely day and took the fluffies for a lunchtime walk. Today is a bit mizzley I’ll see how wet it is later before making a decision. Got 2 loads of washing line dried yesterday. Smells divine!

This weekend the fluff monsters should be going to a new groomer. Though I’m getting a bit twitchy as she hasn’t responded to my text to confirm it’s still happening.
I’ve got physio on Thursday, really hoping she can sort my arm out as it’s been giving me gyp since September. Friday is hair and nails day and Saturday, fingers crossed groomers. A bit of an expensive week. Just had to lend DS1 some money, should get that back once his savings have come through.
