Sounds like a lot of pressure on your finances as the kids prepare for greater independence. Nice of you to take the dogs. Hope they bring you joy.

We were always supposed to have 2 dogs but she wanted to see if she could cope with 2 of them. It makes sense for us to have them, we’ve a big garden and I’m at home 3 days a week and usually around for some of the time other days. 

Everyone has made it home safely and we’re adjusting to the quiet. We’ll bring the other dogs back with us in October when we go down. 

When OH put the washing poles up he unknowingly cracked a foul pipe. We’ve adopted the ostrich position and ignored the ominous gurgling from various bathrooms. However due to the number of people things have literally come to a head. So on Saturday after they’d all departed we had an investigation. Yes the wash pole had gone through the pipe. Pulled that out and got the draining rods out. Gave it a good old prod and poke, running but still not great. OH decided to put the rubber plunger thingymebob on the end. Made great progress till it got well and truly stuck. At this point me and the dog went into hiding. I did have a look on you tube to see if there were any helpful tips on un-wedging it. Apart from always call a professional, there wasn’t. Tried to pull it out using the digger, just pulled the end off the draining rod.  After lots of huffing and puffing the decision was made to dig it out. Luckily the first hole we dug was where it was and it looked like the drain was already cracked so would’ve needed doing anyway. 

I have 2 holes, a partially open sewer and no washing line. Fun!  OH will get pipe and fittings on Thursday. 

Money news, we haven’t enough. DS2 needs help with rent for next 2 months, he doesn’t get paid for this job until October. DS1 is going from fortnightly to monthly pay so may need help. We need to juggle money around as we’re having a stove installed on the 14th. Need to sit down with OH to decide how to sort it.

How frustrating (and smelly presumably) on the sewer pipe. Sounds like you have good equipment at least.

Sorry money is tight - hope you find a solution.

I forgot to mention when we’re down at the pier, there’s a tiny island which has seals on it. They were making a noise which was a cross between a dog howling and something else. If I’d‘ve been camping I would’ve been running for the hills. It was very eerie. I heard them last night when I was outside.

Loving your visitor - and yes, seals really do  make some spooky noises don't they! My favourite for eerie noises has to be Snipe though - until you learn that what you're hearing IS just a bird, you genuinely think you're being haunted!  

Blast to the foul pipe and the squeaky finances though - although having said that about the latter I'm absolutely confident that you will make it all work one way or another, you've got all the tools in your armoury after all. 

Great news about DD1 and the house and well done her for making the right decision about the dogs too - that can't have been at all easy for her.
