A fairly busy weekend. Saturday we went to see DS1 and GFs new house. The sat nav took us on a bizarre route and decided it’d had enough 3/4 of the way there. I wasn’t in the best of moods when we arrived as I was driving. The cottage is looking good and has been gutted with new kitchen, bathroom and electrics put in. We went to a carpet shop recommended by his new boss.  They’ve got 3 bedrooms, kitchen and bathroom fitted for £1100. A bit extra to go on for the hallway as it’s a funny shape and they said they’d measure it and send the price over.

Today we took the dogs to the beach and they were fairly well behaved. Once they’d dried off they got brushed.

Cooked a roast dinner and while the oven was on cooked a crustless quiche (now portioned up and frozen) crumble, stuffed peppers and stuffed mushrooms. Prepped a curry for tomorrow nights tea.

I’ve got a 10% off my next lidl shop so need to make the most of that when I go.

So we had a little bit of a money meeting this afternoon. I’m conscious that I do all the internet banking and if anything happened to me OH wouldn’t have a clue so he had a crash course in that. I did feel I only had 90% of his attention. We decided to put some more money into premium bonds but not really formulated a plan going forward.

  • We have a sit down "financial summit" every few months where we talk everything through, tweak any savings plans that are in place where needed etc. as a result of that MrEH now has a far better grasp of everything that goes in and out. You're absolutely right in feeling that MrL needs at least a basic idea of how things work IMO.

That's interesting @lucielle and @EssexHebridean - I we've been having similar conversations at la Maison blackcats (although 90% of OH's attention would count as a winning amount here.   I've been trying to simplify life by organising, streamlining and shredding redundant paperwork.  I asked OH if he would be able to find what he needed if I got knocked over by the proverbial bus and he said no and to be fair I can't blame him.
I'm trying to leave clear notes, account numbers, online logins in safe but obvious places.

It's all important stuff. I get organised from time to time and then it seems to get away from me again.

Had a really rubbish nights sleep and was tossing and turning for ages.  Then at 3am I realised I hadn't moved the mortgage money into the correct place, so I zoomed downstairs and fired up the laptop.  Still spent a while trying to get back to sleep, then had a dream about my dog who I lost last year and woke up crying!

DS1 has paid the deposit for the carpets, so they should be getting fitted soon.  The house still has builders and decorators in, so just waiting for them to finish.  We're helping them move on Thursday and Friday.  I thought I'd do a little new home pack, some nice bubbles and bath salts, bottle of prosecco and some J2o's for mummy to be.

Booked to go swimming £3 for an hour, though the pool is tiny and I think I worked out you had to do 80 lengths to hit a mile.  Work has been frustratingly slow, I owe them some hours as a plumber came yesterday to sort the heating that had a temporary repair before Christmas.  It was 1 before I got to the office.

Looking forward to the final episode of Happy Valley, I really hope they don't kill her!

The electric contract on the Skye house ends 23 March.  Can anybody tell me how soon I can move or put plans in place?

Well signed up with Octopus for electric in Skye house.  Got a referral so when DS1 moves I can sign him up and we both benefit.  OH and I took the dogs for a 4 mile walk, so they should snore their way through the afternoon (dogs not OH) as he's watching the rugby.  Got a gammon in the slow cooker for tea and this weeks dinners.

Not going to be needed for Thursday when DS1 moves but  we will be needed on the Friday.  That'll give me time to clean the car and get ready to head north on Saturday.

A hectic day at work with diggers not being where they’re supposed to be and gravel not arriving when it should. Fingers crossed digger arrives on site at 7.30 tomorrow as promised

Had a phone call off DS1 as he needs to borrow some money, I’ve been expecting the call so wasn’t surprised. It’s added to the current debt as he owes for some other things.

I did have a very unexpected phone call off my stepdad on Sunday. I haven’t spoken to him since 2019. Not sure how I feel tbh, the conversation was mostly 40 minutes about him and 5 seconds of us. He’s always been a transmitter not a receiver!
