am I the only one with this problem every night/week I ask what do you want for dinner, do you want me yo get anything when shopping..... reply I dont know/not really. As I cannot get an answer I will cook something I think he will like or suggest something and be told its not what he fancies....Ill ask what would you like instead to be told "I dont know" the only thing I can win with most of the time is steak or burgers and not always those.
Im so so frustrated.........................

I don't think I've ever asked my husband what he'd like for dinner. Can't remember my mum ever asking my dad either. It has never even occured to me before. I see it as my job to decide what we eat since i cook it. This does mean of course, that we always have something I like0

Hi there
I used to ask hubby what he fancied for dinner and used to get some odd answers... i now say "XYZ for dinner tomorrow - that ok?" he has chance to say if he prefers something else, but usually just says yes.... job done.... he says its no use asking him what he wants for the following day -when he has just finished eating -as he isn't hungry so can't think of anything...

Once a week I plan our menu so I can go shopping.... once a week.. I ask dh, ds1 (5) and ds2 (3) if there is any meal they would like that week... dh always replies "food", ds1 "potato bake" and ds2 "chocolate" I have given up asking - I make a menu to suit whether I need to cook quickly or whether I can take my time and according to finances/visitors etc... If I get complaints... then tough! they had plenty of opportunity when meal planning to give me their choices!!!0

In our house the person who does the cooking gets to choose the meals, and as that's me most of the time everyone has to eat what I like! If they don't like it, they are told they can cook next time then. :rotfl:
Seriously, don't stress about it. If he doesn't like it, so what? It's just food at the end of the day. Why pander to his whims?
My oh drives me round the bend when, after I've had to think what to cook for six days of the week, the one day that he cooks, he asks me what I want! Because he can't be arsed thinking of something himself! :rotfl:0 -
i usally put the meal plan up on fridge so hubby can see it. then if he don't like what the meal is that day i will try and change it with aother day.
or i will say for dinner tonight would u like either a or b. knowing i have stuff in to make either.
or i say i am making this for dinner tonight.
i find if i do ask hubby it is a bit like an open ended question so i don't generally ask. He most days is happy to come home from work after a long hard day and be really grateful of a hot meal on the table.0 -
If I ask my hubby he always says steak chips and mushrooms etc.
We have probably had this twice in 14 years.
I dont like steak. I dont buy steak. There is never steak in the house. So it doesnt happen.
I also menu plan and buy what I need.
I put the menu on the fridge if the kids dont like it they invite themselves to their friends or grannys that night. Its up to them. Should be grateful they have a lovely mum to cook for them.0 -
I never ask OH or kids what they want to eat, they get what they're given....
But i'm not that mean.. if they mention something was particularly nice then that meal will go on the regular menu, likewise if they are not that keen on what i've made I make it less frequently.
Overall I mainly cook to my advantage so whatever I can be bothered cooking that day is what we have.

On my daily menu thingy stuck on the fridge it says "Any complaints and the cats get it..." Seems to have worked so far and the cats aren't too fat :rotfl:
I just learnt never to ask their opinion or I'd still be waiting for a straight answer hours later!0 -
I get the - I don't know, whatever you fancy. Then when I make it - I didn't fancy that! Grrrrr! One day I might be more organised...........
