Wow, loads of responses, Thank You!

Spoke with our solicitor today and she said there is a list as long as her arm outstanding, She thinks their solicitor is not very forthcoming. She said when I had sent her the pics of the mess around the back of the house that she had to pick her jaw up from her desk. It's a shame I can't post them for you....dobt know how.

When we viewed, we could see the blue container at the back and was informed by estate agent that next door had bought the land and used it to "tinker " with cars.. ..i did think at the time I hope he's not noisy. When we had searches etc come back i flagged it to the solicitor that the land cannot still be owned by council as the neighbour had bought It? She said this was incorrect, and asked for photos. It was then we walked up the side lane and round the back to see what appears to be Steptoes yard.

The vendors response to the mess was they have nit spoken to neighbour nor had issues. I raised it with planning dept at council, called them today and they have said the land is still housing association land and they will consider next steps- taking enforcement through unlawful planning or merely informing the housing association that the shipping container is on their land etc.

The solicitor has said it will cost £340 to withdraw from the sale, those are her fees incurred so far aside from the searches, which we have already paid. I guess I feel bad at tge thought of pulling out, but nothing worse than a horrible neighbour!

Pull out. The money you owe to your solicitor will be a bargain that saves you future trouble. Easier not to buy than find you can't sell because of your problem neighbours.

Looking back on my first house purchase, there were plenty of red flags that I should have recognised, but I got so caught up in the process of buying a house that I just ignored them.

In hindsight, I should have gone with my gut instinct and not bought that particular house. You will always have second thoughts when making such a huge purchase, but it seems like your concerns are valid.

Have a good think about what you're worried about. Put aside the excitement of moving into your own place, buying your first house, and try and imagine yourself dealing with the same issues a year down the line when the excitement has died down. Some things are easy to compromise on - a bad neighbour or area is not one of them. There will always be more houses and although you may lose out on a few hundred pounds, you could lose out on a lot more by going through with it.

Alternatively, everything could be fine and you could just be getting cold feet! ;)

Part of me thinks it is a nice/lovely house, yes transport links are !!!!! but I could go via my daughter's high school on the way home to collect her a couple nights a week, if she wanted to hang out with friends. There is one bus from the village in the morning and one at tea time. As they get older I dont really want to be trevving miles to collect either child from a night out etc.

The other off putting thing is the neigjbour-and this is the big thing. I can't be doing with stress from neighbours, the other side of the house are 3 housing association houses which could have anyone put in them. Hubby said someone had also placed a horse in the field behind the house when he took his mate to see the outside....there is a traveller site 4 miles away and they are known for tying a horse up in random fields around the area. The local town is traveller central of the fens.

All sounds a nightmare. I partly think come on, it's in our price range, the house is lovely, but SOMETHING is niggling. I just have to get the guts now to pull the plug

The more you say the worse it gets. Your choice of course but I think you have already talked yourself out of it as you convey far more negatives than you do positives.

Hmmm, I see what you mean. Is that all his stuff and is his garden also full of junk? Very apparent that he has no regard for anybody else’s use of the space and to be honest if he has the brass neck to do that he probably isn’t too receptive to reasoning and considering other people’s feelings.

Not as bad looking at the pics,6 months of not trimming those conifers, that container roof will be gone from sight.
I'd be more worried about that flat roof leaking and the repair cost £££££
