You know those 3 magic words Location, Location, Location!

Well, I've got 5 different ones for you - No, No, No, No, No!
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales
  • Buy it! House will be worth 5-10k more in couple of years time and think you are paying off a mortage and not a land lords pocket!!

Tell you now, my first house was god awful, but without it i wouldnt be were i am now!!
  • Wow, loads of responses, Thank You!

Spoke with our solicitor today and she said there is a list as long as her arm outstanding, She thinks their solicitor is not very forthcoming. She said when I had sent her the pics of the mess around the back of the house that she had to pick her jaw up from her desk. It's a shame I can't post them for you....dobt know how.

When we viewed, we could see the blue container at the back and was informed by estate agent that next door had bought the land and used it to "tinker " with cars.. ..i did think at the time I hope he's not noisy. When we had searches etc come back i flagged it to the solicitor that the land cannot still be owned by council as the neighbour had bought It? She said this was incorrect, and asked for photos. It was then we walked up the side lane and round the back to see what appears to be Steptoes yard.

The vendors response to the mess was they have nit spoken to neighbour nor had issues. I raised it with planning dept at council, called them today and they have said the land is still housing association land and they will consider next steps- taking enforcement through unlawful planning or merely informing the housing association that the shipping container is on their land etc.

The solicitor has said it will cost £340 to withdraw from the sale, those are her fees incurred so far aside from the searches, which we have already paid. I guess I feel bad at tge thought of pulling out, but nothing worse than a horrible neighbour!

Your most recent description makes it sound even worse than your original one. If the Council enforce removal of their junk I imagine they wouldn’t comply with grace and may well become more of a nuisance to prove a point, especially if they think he council have been tipped off. I’m sure your vendors have more to say than they are letting on. Just be very cautious. Is the house in question privately owned?

Yes, they reportedly own their house. Quite why they feel they have the right to sprawl themselves across the back of the shared accessway I dobt know. I might ring the housing association and let them know.

My first house wasn't too special either, but I was able to tackle the improvements it needed, because they were under my direct control.

If the problems with the house had come from neighbours, I might have worked and spent money on it to little personal advantage.... and hated living there as well.

    I do. They're entitled.

If you create problems for them, then move in next door, they'll be entitled to take their frustrations out on you and your possessions as well

You may, but there's some stiff opposition:

If you buy some land for £6K per acre then build a small dwelling with earth covered roof, and a big bund all the way around so it's invisible from air and ground level, then live in it for four years then get lawful development, then you can get the solar panels and wind generators set up.

Pull out of the deal. Nightmare neighbours are incredibly draining and you may not get anywhere complaining. There’ll be other houses and you’ll have had this experience as a dry practice run
