This is true I think, another site I use a lot is imdb.com (international movie database) which has practically every film and TV series there ever was listed on there, with all the information on the cast, directors, and also reviews etc, and trailers for new films. Very useful when you recognise an actor from somewhere else, and it is niggling you and you can't remember where! But it also used to have a lively forum, which they axed a couple of years ago. I probably only spend about a third of the time I used to on there, because of this. Site owners shouldn't underestimate the forums.
I miss the IMDB forums too but IMO a big factor in their scrapping was the huge amount of trolling on them. It got to the point where boards for a lot of current/popular films & TV programmes were completely swamped by trolls.0 -

Can someone in charge, please pm me to sort this, so I can get back to my other account please. !!!55357;!!!56867;
I very much doubt that anybody 'in charge' is going to read your post and contact you.0 -
Here a suggestion, assign some users (volunteers) the abilty to mark a post as spam and have that post immediately quarantined. There are enough users on here that there is always someone on at all times of the day. In effect crowdsourcing it.
Any misuse by individual users could be quickly rectified and the spam marking should be confined to blatant spam, eg if you have a doubt it's not spam don't mark it as such. It's pretty obvious what the bot posts are.
One way not to suppress spam is to make genuine users change their passwords every 90 days. That is risible.0 -

If you've changed your email address please update it in your user profile settings. If you're having problems updating it e.g., you no longer have access to the email account you registered with please email the Forum Team telling us your original email address.

This was suggested the last time there was a huge influx of spam but was not taken up at that time and I doubt if it will be taken up this time either (though I'd gladly be proven wrong)
The BGs have the power to lock threads, they should also have the power to block the spamming posters instantly.0 -

Surely MSE would have realised that the forum being hacked would immediately spring to most people's minds in the circumstances.
So a simple statement to that effect would have eliminated a lot of this.
Andrea had ample opportunity to say those 2 words in the thread she started yesterday morning.
The issue of being asked to reset passwords over a non-secure connection is another issue that - imho - needs addressing, but being assured that there has been 'no hack' would have been welcomed, at least by me.0 -
As a board guide, we speak to the forum team frequently about spam, so I thought I'd give you guys as much of an update as I could. I'm just trying to be helpful. If that's peed you off... I dunno why.
Honestly it's really disheartening when you stay up late getting rid of the spam as soon as it pops up (or as soon as I see it) to prevent as much disruption as possible, and then get this in return.Hi.
