The suggestion that their security has been compromised and people's passwords and user names have been exposed to hackers is incredibly commercially damaging to them. They ought to be jumping to deny it, if it isn't true. Why aren't they? How long does it take someone to type "No"? The only sensible answer is that a decision has been made at a high level to stop someone denying it.

That doesn't answer the question as to why we have to update our passwords on an unsecure page, I see no reason why that question can't be answered.
    It's nothing , not nothink.

    Really?

    Isn't there a third option?

Could it be that the questions have indeed been read and a corporate decision made simply not to respond to them?

I sincerely believe that the security of this site is uppermost in her mind and that of her employers and it is churlish to imply otherwise.

In that case why have we all had to update our passwords on an unsecure page? My two options stand and it's most certainly not churlish in any way.

    Disclosure about other companies.
You don't appear to have read the notice from 2009 that shows MSE notifying:

"MoneySavingExpert.com's technical team has become aware of attempts by hackers to infiltrate this site with a 'trojan' virus over recent days.

Brendan Perrett, MoneySavingExpert.com webmaster, says: "We have noted what seems to be a malicious attempt to implant a virus, known as a 'trojan.script.Iframer'.

"If it did get on the site it's likely it was only there for a short time, and to the best of our knowledge, we have now shut off access to it.

Test post: I meant put the captcha on signing up a forum username account, not on trying to make a post

Edit: OK, not needed for this post, but it wanted one for the post I tried to do a couple of minutes ago, and then it didn't post it anyway.

    Hmm, same thing happened again.

Typed a post with 4 or 5 paragraphs.

It wanted a captcha completed before posting.

I completed the captcha by ticking the pictures of bridges

    Went to a blank page.

Went back, do I want to resubmit the form?

    Yes, but nothing.

I didn't copy what I was saying before trying to post.

    Start again.

    Or don't bother.

    Hi

Sorry for the lack of notice to the password reset - we should have told you, but we didn't want to draw attention to the spam creators.

We wanted to clamp down on the amount of spam that gets posted to the forum, and one of the many measures taken was to ask everyone to reset their password, and thus help weed out the bots and disposable accounts.

We're sorry for the inconvenience caused, but hopefully most managed to easily reset theirs.

If you can't remember your password you can get a reset link sent to the email you used to register your account.

If you've changed your email address please update it in your user profile settings. If you're having problems updating it e.g., you no longer have access to the email account you registered with please email the Forum Team telling us your original email address.

As an extra measure we've also put in place a 90 day time limit for password expiry, and would appreciate your feedback.
