Interesting, could I just open a new current account with any random bank deposit a tenner in cash, and then just immediately move that to Halifax and empty the account? Otherwise how long would I have to stay before I could switch back?

You could do, I can't find anything about a minimum period the Halifax account has to be open for. Though the £3 monthly reward makes the account worth keeping if you have 2 Direct Debits to satisfy the criteria. Other than that it's just a case of shuffling £750 through the account each month, so extra money for not very much work.

No DD's needed for the switching incentive though.
  • I don't think they allow savings accounts for direct debits. If you find out otherwise please let me know.
I'm currently 1 DD short for my joint Halifax Reward account. The reward is only £3 per month where you can get up to £13.75 per month from TSB if you keep £1500 savings in the account (interest is £3.75 month), £5 monthly reward for having 2 DDs set up and £5 reward for using your card for purchases 20 times in a month (if you don't do this stagger your food shopping trips or pay for one item at a time at self-service!)
  • I got Halifax £125 bonus a few months ago.

There is no minimum time period to hold the Halifax account. I took advantage of this £125 offer last year and switched out of the Halifax reward account as soon as I had my debit card and the switch bonus had been paid.
You should pay attention to the needs of the moment - otherwise there is no future. But to ignore the future is foolish - living solely for the moment leaves nothing for when the next moment arrives.

Good morning everyone, I have an old TSB account that I haven't used for ages - would switching this into my existing Halifax Reward Current Account qualify me for the 125 or is TSB part of HBOS? I did ask Halifax's online chat just now, but he simply gave me the link that I've already read. Doing the Google has left me unsure (it usually does.) Many thanks!

Edited to say that I haven't ever received a switching incentive from Halifax, I just opened an account with them back in 2011.

TSB isn't part of HBoS but it doesn't matter even if they were, if the terms don't exclude them.

The terms exclude Bank of Scotland accounts, a TSB account is fine to qualify for the offer.

Well ... that was the easiest/fastest online application for a switch incentive I've ever done ..... and I've done a few :)

Due to having to wait for the NatWest bonus which won't come until after the Halifax offer ends, I decided to use the TSB account instead for the switch ... I've already got the TSB £130 bonus. The difference in the other rewards from the TSB vs the rewards from the Halifax was too small to worry about.

Hopefully another easy switch bonus of £125 :j

Edit:- Forgot to mention, account opened immediately with s/code and acc no supplied at end of application!

Unfortunately I got £200 from switching to Halifax from NatWest in November 2014 and have been getting £5 and then £3 ever since so I've had it! I could still switch to the HSBC or M&S offers but I have noticed that since I made the switches to Yorkshire and NatWest that my credit rating has gone down a bit.

In what way? How are you measuring this?
