Thanks GAP, DIA, OSHDTH and Jwil
Should find out later today if can get my car back tonight or tomorrow.
In other news, we are putting our radiators on for a few hours a day currently but quite a few are leaking so need to get the boiler guy back out - but scared of potential costs... We didn't replace the radiator when we did the boiler...
I also need to sort out my dog's insurance by the end of the week. The vet said a while ago that our insurer is a crook and won't pay out and it is due for renewal.
DD missed school yesterday but went in today. I am feeling exhausted as I don't normally drink caffeine but did at tea time on Sunday and then didn't get to sleep until between 2 and 3am that night. Still catching up now.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Thanks Stripey. DS and DH had a good time together. DS has started his part job as an online help person - or at least the training for it.
I got my car back okay with no further nasty surprises. Got rid of the old fridge yesterday and got the new one in place. Murphy doesn't seem to have finished yet though - some of our radiators are leaking really badly - had to turn the heating back off - but think one of the radiators is still leaking regardless as the carpet is soaked. It is on the landing at the top of the stairs so no easy way of putting stuff down to catch water. Used a towel for now. Just texted the boiler guy to see if there is any way he can come this afternoon. I have to rush out to a meeting now and DH has already gone to work. He may need to come back for DD later as she had horrific toothache last night.
So a great week all in! We'd topped up our savings and EF this month - so currently have about £600 left we could spend on emergencies if required before having to use CC or similar... let's hope the heating bill doesn't come to more than that... Just hope the carpet isn't ruined - as although I would like to replace it - wasn't planning to do it yet - especially as there is a problem with the stairs too not having the right support - and if we were to do something with the carpet - we would want to fix that too... and decorate the hall stairs and landing... the list just grows...
Things have to get better soon right? I am also grateful that we even have £600 in our EF with the month we've had so far since the 15th!!!Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

It just demonstrates how important the emergency fund is. I like having an emergency float in my account every month. It gives me a bit of security.Total (Aug 19):€58,567 Now:€26,947

Thankfully the plumber only charged me £65 to drain the tank, fix the valves on the landing radiator and turn off one of the (small toilet) radiators downstairs that is completely corroded. He's said that if we get the towel rail / radiators ourselves - that he would fit them and do the annual service for around £200 and just to let him know when we are ready. Thankfully - he does't think any of the other radiators need replacing yet. I was so relieved. Hoping the carpet dries out okay.
Pooch is still on her season for a few more days but has been eating more normally the last couple of days. Am looking forward to being able to walk her again. We need to book her in for neutering (around £170) shortly after Christmas. May wait until after January payday. Yesterday I sorted pooch's insurance. Should be around £22 a month for £10,000 per condition lifetime cover. If all goes well should get £75 cashback. Previous cover was only £4K for about £13.50 per month but the vet recommended I switch. Went with Mr T as they paid out no problem for our cat.
My car is also due its service around Christmas - the service fee is included in my scheme but after the experience I've had this week I am wondering if there are any more shocks to come. Hopefully not. Feeling better about DH's older car every day
DD has started her campaign for certain Christmas presents - I sympathise but don't really want to buy them out of this month's £. She wants me to buy gift sets from particular stores - claiming they have unique products... the problem is though - that I like to get cashback - and the one she wants I don't think does that...£co is ready to pay me a whole £7.40 and B00ts have a similar amount on my points card...Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

I gave in and bought DD one of the things she wanted - there would have been hell to pay if I had missed it - and it did have 20% off (still extortionate. Will pick it up tomorrow and put it away for Christmas.
Got suckered into a big spend at H&B yesterday - however I had run out of pretty much all cat and dog food so can justify it to myself... Just done an online food shop with Mr A. Will need to be really strict the next couple of weekends to stay on track grocery wise. Food should come tomorrow night. DH had made spag bol for tea when I got in today but I ate left over slow roasted lamb for lunch and dinner instead.
Feeling a little sorry for myself tonight. DD has missed a load more school this week Monday and finishing early yesterday and today. She went to the dentist today - she needs 2 fillings and is booked in at the start of December. I worked long hours this week but really only made up for hours I missed partly due to her last week. It feels like 2 step forwards and 1 step back too often. I would normally have next week off but she didn't want me to and it coincides with a major peak in workload where I am so I am not off... Sad though... If I can I need to try and last until Christmas when I am due to have 2 weeks off. DS will be in Oz by that point though. I have 4 other days I could book between now and the end of March but so busy at work it is discouraged currently.
My next CC payments aren't due until around the first week in November. A third is due a couple of days before payday. So just trying to stay on course.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Not a lot anyone can do to help, but sending you (((hugs))) and hoping things improve as much as they can.
Is there any chance that DDs health will improve?I Believe.....
That it isn't always enough, to be forgiven by others.
Sometimes, you have to learn to forgive yourself.
Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery
Today is a gift. That's why it is called the present.

but by getting rid of the things that make you unhappy0 -
Have you rung a few other vets to see how much they charge for the op?
Glad to hear your son has started.
I'm sorry to read DD isnt having a good run again, hopefully she will be on the up again soon.
I know it feels like backwards steps are more frequent, but try and them of them as a side step, you are still on track but having a small diversion to get where you are going. Think you need an hour or so just for you, a cake and coffee somewhere to be SH and not superwoman as there's a lot on your shoulders xMortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.0 -

Thanks Crystal, MF and DIA - I've just booked myself a little B&B for the night about an hour away just to have some peace. Will leave DD with DH and hope I'm feeling a bit better when I come back. I've got a couple of unread magazines from my mother's day subscription - and may buy myself a chunky cross stitch kit or something similar to take with me.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030
