SandyShores said:I'm batch cooking soup for the week too
I bought leeks, carrots, potatoes and onions yesterday to make a soup for the week (but its all still sat in the fridge so I need to make it this morning). Sometimes you just need a rest.
I need to get back to a bit more batch cooking but before that I need to actually make some space in the freezer - so well and truly with you on opoeration lower-the-grocery-spend! The colouring is lovely - I love doing stuff like that but at the moment would need to get my glasses sorted out first I think - close-up stuff is not my friend right now!Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

On the divorce front looks like we will soon sign our fin statement stuff so the end is in sight. Currently he is still on track to assign the life ins to me... Which is a big relief as it would have cost me a fortune to replicate that cover now.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Well I nipped out earlier for meds.
Got 11 lots of 10p YS veg. Also got 10p cob.
So used about 4 stewing veg packs and 2 mixed sweet potato and butternut squash packs to make another huge vat of soup. This time I added salt, garlic granules, allspice, nutmeg, squirt of tomato puree, turmeric, a tin of mushy peas, 3 chicken stock cubes. Tasty. Plan to freeze some of both soups so I can have some variety for no effort another week.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

I am thrilled re life insurance. Tomorrow I need to chase my solicitor as I expected docs through to sign today for the financial bit so that can be submitted but they haven't come yet.
Mortgage - I got asked for more bank statements today which seemed weird so I rang my broker. He doesn't think the 6 months worth I uploaded on the 13/10 actually made it to the lender. Picture fizzing coming out of cartoon head. He said just upload one more. He will chase it through tomorrow. I said I've been having nightmares about it all. He said you've passed the income test - they just want to double check there's no gambling issue or anything like that and then you should get to offer stage... He reckons the legals will then take another 4-8 weeks.... Here's hoping for 4 weeks. 19/11 is my earliest allowed divorce date so I was kind of hoping to hit it.... Cutting it fine.
I'm debating what to do about all my hall and landing lights. There are at least 4 sets of 4 lights... Each has a cap you have to unscrew before you can even fit a bulb. I'm thinking of changing the lights - particularly on the landing to ones that are less complicated. They came with the house so were never my choice anyway. As a minimum I need to get Ex to unscrew all the caps as there's no way I want to / would be able to do that given how clumsy I am at the best of times. I'm particularly worried about the landing ones. Once I have my mortgage offer - I think that's my next priority to try and get sorted - particularly if Ex will do it for me before he goes... No harm in asking. Otherwise BIL would do for me...
DS is due home - briefly - possibly Thursday night. Not sure when he's travelling to BIL/Sis. He's house sitting for them/their dog - but has promised to do some things for me while he's home. Will be interesting to see if any of them materialise. He's borrowing Ex's car which is kind of him.
I was feeling mega stressed re the mortgage before I rang the broker but feeling better now (comparatively).Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Send the statements to your broker, he send them on too. Great you've passed affordability!
Do you bag up the freezer foods before putting them in? I've got different meat / veg in the different drawers as it makes it easier to see where I'm needing to top up.
Lights sound interesting, perhaps have the caps taken off now, let the mortgage go through and a few months later have them swapped over. Keeps costs down for the immediate future and allows time to replenish funds or create a budget for doing the changes.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.7 -
Loving all the soup talk. I've not made any in a long time. I quite fancy a bowl of leek & potato now. Will add the ingredients to this weekend's shopping list.6

I really love those colouring cards, @savingholmes What a good idea, all the benefits and fun of colouring in, but with a purpose as well. Brilliant!Live the good life where you have been planted.
