That's not bad annual repair costs for DHs car, at least you know that's less things to need doing for a few years. Is that £200pm just for repairs or all expenses aside from petrol?
Although DS didn't get the job, it was good experience for him. Maybe DD could pick up holiday shift cover to boost her income occasionally.
Have you checked your online 1k3@ account, just in case it shows? Or does it say anything on their website? I've never returned anything to them.
When you know your limit, you will then be able to work out what's best to do.
Sorry to hear DH hasn't taken the delayed DF timeframe too well, hopefully he realises he still has an end date and it will soon come round. If he has enough holiday, perhaps suggest he books some random days off to give him the break from there.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.2 -
HI MF - £200pcm for my car, his car and motorbike maintenance - and insurance - assuming my car doesn't have a big bill at mot time. I have a free mot as part of plan I am on - and that includes basic servicing - but I think my servicing frequency is 20,000 - will check when I go. We only got a second car again because of DD at 6th form - so we could share the load between us for when she refuses / can't go on her bike.
Took pooch for a walk 3 days on the run. Something at least.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Well my clothes parcel came - I think I will keep 3 out of 4 of them and send the most expensive item back as it didn't hang right and wasn't soft / comfortable enough. It was a really pretty hoodie - but JB hadn't thought through softness to the touch at all - which is quite a high quality for a hoodie. Surprisingly the item I was the most pleased with was the cheapest at £13.50 reduced from £40.
I have my painting clothes on now to make myself paint - but it hasn't happened yet - not helped by the fact I need to clear all the surfaces before I start - and preferably find something to cover the floor. I may get DH to help me move the table out before I paint the ceiling. I am messy at the best of times - and ceiling paint always seems to flick everywhere.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

You do well with ordering clothes online and keeping a good percentage. Softness is a must when it's against skin or needs frequent movement.
Good luck with the painting, ceilings are awkward with the flicking back. Perhaps someone should invent a cover to go on the handle which catches it!Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.3 -
Hi MF - it's like you can see me. I am covered with speckles of paint - and had to completely cover the floor. The counters being replaced - not worried about the paint speckles on them- but the work does set the deadline for finishing the ceilings and walls! It looks so much better already - even though all I've done is cover damp. It already looks brighter. I also potentially need to do glossing as didn't do window sill last time and need to do the skirting boards and touch up some bits. I also need to find a way to glue some of the door beading back on.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

I know how awkward rollers are at the best if times, let alone overhead.
A1di have got gloss paint in for wood, if you need some.
With the beading you need matchsticks or something similar. Carefully lift the beading (assuming it's still on the door), then put some glue on the m-stick, feed the m-stick under the lifted beading to get the glue on it, pull out and repeat the process along it, then press the beading back down. Hold down for a minute or two to bond the door / beading, leave to set for a few hours or as per glue instructions.

Thanks MF on the door beading - I'll let you know once I've done it. I still need to finish painting the ceiling. DD is insisting on making her father help her make chocolate brownies (I refused). I will then take over the kitchen to paint once she's done. I am feeling a bit grumpy today. I overslept until 12 which was lovely - but then the family decided to come into the lounge where I was trying to eat my late breakfast in peace. I am definitely struggling again with too many people in my space during this weird extended semi-lockdown we're in. 'I just want to be alone'.... If things were more normal I would have encouraged everyone else to go out for the day so I could paint (redecorate) in peace. DD is insisting on a roast dinner - (for tea) so will ask DH to do the potatoes. It's easy enough to throw the beef in an enamel roasting tin.
It looks like the 'stain stop' stuff worked on the ceiling though which is good. I am going to spray a 'vent' pipe white (that comes out of cooker hood). It is stained with layered on grease that doesn't want to come off so going to cover it. Yes I know it's minging but... the alternative would be to buy and fit a new vent which isn't happening... I tried painting some of the wall white next to the tiles - but I don't like it at all - it made them look dull - so will be painting the walls a light grey instead. It's going to be tricky to get it all done before tomorrow - so I think the ceiling will need to be the priority. Because I've effectively used 3 different paint brands on the ceiling (stain stop - then D then J as I ran out) it is looking patchy so likely to have to recover the lot!
I have tomorrow off - so will be interesting to see what I get up to tomorrow - given that I am now on a painting band wagon - I may add to the chaos by starting to paint the lounge... or I could do the more sensible thing of decluttering our bedroom. LOL - we all know which I'd rather do!!

I hate painting, so good for you for being so hands on.
I hope you get some peace and quiet at some pointI think I saw you in an ice cream parlour
Drinking milk shakes, cold and long
Smiling and waving and looking so fine3 -
A load of washing up liquid, left to soak in, then somehow getting steam up to the vent would get it clean. Although I dont blame you for just wanting to paint it. If you've got some stain block left, put that on first to contain the grease before spraying, otherwise it will leach through. Or even just out the stain block stuff on as that stays a shiny white.
It's so difficult trying to do painting when there isn't a universal 'white' across all the brand's, it's always a different white, which adds to the task.
Can you send the family out and get them to do the dog walk for an hour or so, give you some quite time?
If I were you. I would paint the lounge, then that's another task out the way. Keep the motivation going to tackle decluttering. I suspect if you tried to do it the other way, that would stop you in your tracks.
Enjoy your roast, it sounds perfect for a Sunday tea.
