Great that you've managed to get the shed completed.
I read your diary and I'm in awe at what you are achieving, whilst I sit here and contemplate the million things that need doing here. Non of which get even started. It would involve eating a herd or elephants, one bite at a time, or a shed load of frogs! The biggest problem, as you say, would be finding someone able to do the work involved... maybe I need to really spend some time trying to find workmen (and then somewhere for OH to stay whilst the work gets done!)I Believe.....

Hi Crystal - thanks for the encouragement. I tend to feel like I am failing - as I miss my goals - but as you highlight at least I am heading in the right direction. I just set too high a standard for myself. I still need to chase up finding someone to fit the counter and call the electrician. I have no spare £ until after payday so will aim for then. Kitchen wall and glossing is still outstanding.
I feel like I've slowed to a crawl this week - my eyes are really sore and have been streaming after a small attempt at decluttering our bedroom at the weekend!! If they weren't so gritty I'd laugh. Little niggles going wrong at the moment. DH has discovered a hole in his motorbike helmet and it just cost £149 for a new one. The washing machine is refusing to self-drain - despite cleaning the filter twice, manually draining it twice etc. DH is going to have to pull out a bit more to see if the pipe is kinked behind it. No idea how long we've had it... Not sure what the cost to fix would be if it's gone wrong. Looks like could get a replacement for around the £200-250 mark but I hope we don't need to. We've drained our savings recently... and our car insurance is due September - so that's the priority.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Hope you're eyes feel better soon, sounds like you've got a lot on at the moment but things are taking shape. Definitely love the slate idea, being in North Wales we have lots around here and love seeing both the grey and the purple in many forms which reminds me I have a piece of slate that was on our porch I keep forgetting to ask Mum to do a painting on that is personal to us e.g. a kayak, mountains.
Fingers crossed the washing machine is sorted without the expense of a new one.
Hope you have a relaxing evening, H x

For goodness sake don't feel that you're failing!!! You've achieved an enormous amount of stuff in the house and garden, whilst also tackling working from home (sans cleaner) and 2 kids that needed sorting out! I think you deserve a medal, as big as the town hall clock!
Is the problem with your eyes caused by dust (not for one second am I intimating that your bedroom is dusty) but if that's what's causing it maybe a pair of goggles would help?
Much better to pay for a new motorcycle helmet than chance a crash/fall with a faulty one... doesn't bare thinking about.
Hope DH can find an easy solution to the washing machine draining problem.
I wish I could call in 'House Doctor' so that she could sort out all the workmen etc that I need to find. I don't care what it cost it would be worth it!However failing that I'm really going to have to get my finger out. DGS went back home today, getting ready to start 6th form, so there is just me and DH here now and I may actually be able to get something done (maybe..

here, here! I agree with Chrystal. Don't forget all the work you've done in the garden as well as the house! As well as keeping us entertained with your diary.3

You are forgetting how much you have done SH, please stop putting yourself under pressure.
Maybe buy some eye drops for when you are digging around in areas which haven't been touched for a while. That way you can rinse the dust out.
Hopefully DH will find out what's wrong with the machine, it may be worth a quick internet search.
Fingers crossed you find trades people soon and your insurance isn't too pricey.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.3 -
Thanks HM, Crystal, Blackcats and MF. I needed the encouragement.
Right well - just had to put a new washing machine on a card as we tried all the things we know how to do and it didn't work. Ironically it broke shortly after I had used 'washing machine' cleaner. It feels connected... Paid extra to have it arrive tomorrow and for them to take the old one away. I have a very important series of meetings this am so need to go and finish getting ready extra quick!! I have had a terrible experience with B3ns0ns - and still haven't had a refund. I spent 1.5 hours queuing yesterday only to be told that he too had to email a different department for them to sort it. The customer services was far worse because I'd bought online rather than a shop. It has really put me off ever buying from them again.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Thanks Jwil. I will try not to keep falling into the trap of seeing what I haven't done yet - rather than celebrating what I have.
My work meetings today went really well although the timescales are likely to be longer than I'd like for some new more interesting work to come my way.
I caught up with the school welfare person today re DD's return and it sounded promising. Time will tell how DD copes. She was amazed that DD had got a job and was seriously impressed by her progress. DD can add time working, cycling and at the gym to the 6th forms record of enrichment activities. Possibly even her work on the kitchen makeover. She plans to give DD weekly support which is fab - and will sort an exemption card for her as DD can't continually wear a mask but could do it in corridors rather than when sat in a lesson.
DS has got some more work from my brother - at £10 an hour. He's done £50 of work already and potentially will have a few hours a week from him. There is a part time job at DH's work that DS will apply for which is in the same line of work as what he is interested in albeit low paid. DS reckons if he gets that it would be enough to fund his own very basic place in a city. I don't think he's considered that they may want him on site for some of that time and how he would get there! He still wants to pursue the MA as well - he has written his own reference just waiting for the tutor to sign and send it LOL. He also asked for a testimonial for the company he was working for April-July. They are going to do weekly reviews again starting tomorrow and will consider DS if any further work comes up. Praying that it does because £20p/h was great for him. On the meds side - some good news the consultant is giving him a letter to take to his GP which should mean that he can get his meds after this lot on the NHS. He will still have to pay for a few follow up appointments but the meds alone are costing £200+ per month.
The car insurance renewal for DH's car has come through. If we insured DS again the bill would be well over £900 so that's not doable. We did warn him he would have to pay his part if he wanted to be insured post September - but he just doesn't have the income currently. Weirdly my car renewal didn't come with it - so I need to check online what that would be. I also need a figure for comparison of what it would have been without DS and they didn't send that to me either. 12 sleeps until payday! Luckily it doesn't need paying until after. DH is also due to be paid a couple of days early in September. My pay increase should come through in October with some back dated money to April...Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030
