Your kitchen plans sound great. Revamping can save loads of money and have a great impact. Keep an eye on local selling sites, kitchen sales, 3bay etc in case anyone is selling offcuts, big enough pieces with end damage to cut off or simply change or mind, sale as you may get good worktops at a fraction of the cost.
I've got dot bumpers on my cupboards, simple yet effective.
Your enthusiasm is back by the sounds of it 😁Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.3 -
Hi MF - thanks. We've now primed at least one side of all but 3 cupboard doors. It's coming on okay so far - but now my back and neck are sore. DD did 4 hours today and then abandoned it. I have probably done at least the same. DH is happy with my kitchen plans but I don't know who we can get to do the final changeover. May ask the neighbours as one of their kids has just had a load of work done. If we could get someone booked in - then I could plan the budget and the pre-work around it.
The NT property was nice but it rained about 2/3 way round. Luckily it was still warm so we continued on regardless. I have somewhere else booked for next weekend.
I harvested potatoes yesterday - 620g - they were like baby potatoes from one pot but still exciting.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Rome wasn't built in a day, you can't expect to do a makeover in 24 hours. Getting as much done as you did allows you to see how it will look when finished.
That looks very pretty, I imagine the rest was impressive too.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.4 -
The NT place was lovely - it was a series of gardens.
MF - it's like you know me. I worked myself to a standstill yesterday.
DD has continued with sanding and painting today. She has painted more units than planned grey - so going with it for now - but then may paint the tiles white and the walls white - unless I hate the effect when she's done. I nipped to the B&* place and bought 2 new drawer units for £24 each (without the fronts) - as our cutlery drawer is collapsing. We also realised that the original builders had been cheap skates and only put one drawer in - despite there being space for one next to it. They'd just put a blank 'front' on it. So the second drawer will go there. That should help prevent future cutlery drawer collapses and help everything look neater. I still want to check out the options for 'larder' style drawers too but it is feeling doable which is good.
DD is going to carry on with priming - we've done more stripping and sanding of drawer fronts and similar today. She's hoping we can ten paint them before bed before leaving to to dry overnight. That would then leave me to sand and paint the non-removable parts of the kitchen - which is a lot! Everything also needs a deep clean and declutter. Still debating whether to paint inside the cupboards to make everything clean and bright. Once DD has finished priming the next lot she is going to try and assemble one of the new drawers but I think DH will need to do the fitting to the cupboard parts. The plan is coming together.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

SH I think we are quite similar, reading your posts are like watching a reply of my old life, before I got as bad as I have. I can 'see' when things are getting too much, when you are getting tired, when your health will not be on your side amongst loads of other things. Which is why I try and encourage you to slow down, do your art and take your focus to something purely for you.
I would be very cautious about painting the shelves (things seem to get stuck to them even when dry), take them out and wrap them in fablon (not sure what the modern name is for it), paint the carcasses, use tile paint on the tiles etc.
-- I did my ex's kitchen to give it a makeover, was very pleased with how it looked and it did make a huge difference. Same with the bathroom.
I never understand why builder cut corners, especially when they charge for things to be done. Main thing is you now know and can right the wrong 😁
Your plans are very doable, they sound fantastic and I'm pleased DD is getting stuck in too.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.3 -
Waves at Lucielle. Thanks MF.
DD had left the sander and the primed drawer fronts out in the rain last night - so I got back up at 1.15am to bring them in. I painted two top cabinets inside and out and the wooden chimney of an oven hood and finished that section at around 2am as I couldn't sleep. I had primed earlier. That looks great. What I hadn't realised is that I can't now put anything back in the cupboard for 2 days! DS has offered to move all the jars and sauces that are now on the counter into a plastic drawer unit. I want to scrub and then prime our mug and glasses cabinet and the shelf over the sink next. It takes a few hours to dry so hoping to do bits across the day in-between working to maximise drying time. I have a sore throat from the fumes today though and am very tired as I only got to sleep after 3am. I had late night chocolate and I think the caffeine in that did it.
DH seems to have gone to work. He did tell me he had to go in a couple of days this week - just didn't tell me which days. I've packed the dishwasher yet again. I feel like I am the only one doing it, despite nagging / begging for help. I need to go back to instructing - but DH was scarily tired this weekend - I think he should go back to the doctor about his sugar. He tested mine last week and it was well within normal.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

While not sleeping I found a pull out bin solution and 6 pull out storage baskets - for £190 I could have the larder solution I am after and hidden bins. I'll add a couple of photos. I need to check the company is legit - and get DH to check the measurements but if it is, I am really pleased with that as a solution.
It's pouring down with rain here today. Glad we were able to do some of the stripping, priming and painting outside over the weekend. At least we have a garage where we can continue.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030
