I had £400 for motoring listed in August's payday period but should have been in this one and I don't think I allowed enough. DH has a car oil change for his car this week at £55. His motorbike is due tax at around £95, plus insurance of I guess around £100. His bike also needs its MOT and a service which could easily be £150-200. The next lot of motoring money after that will hopefully be September payday for both cars insurance - I allowed £600. I am due an MOT in October payday but shouldn't need a service. I pre-pay into a scheme for my car and I think the gave me a free mot last year - so the money may already be in there for this year. I am hardly driving currently - although DH is occasionally driving my car - just so it doesn't have problems and it frees up the other car for DS.
I think I will budget £200 for holiday spends in August even though we are doing a staycation. I will try and book to go to some NT properties.
3 bags of stuff went to charity today so I was happy with that. DH bought a part for the hose so I could use the power washer but it broke apart again so he will need to try something else. DD made tea - a little miracle. Looks like I may have to wait until at September for any backpay relating to payrise which still isn't finalised. DH still hasn't done the foundation for the shed - hopefully the weather will be kind tomorrow and he can get it done then.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Well done on getting in to the £17s and I feel your pain with the vehicle costs all coming at once, our tax/MOTs/insurances are usually all due at the same time but this year we've taken advantage of the 6 month MOT extensions to move the date forward by a couple of months to give the car maintenance budget a bit of breathing space.4

DITR I paid for 6m, then 12m, tax just to get it spaced away from the insurance.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.4

I am hoping that this is the last year it will matter. Our costs are rising - the motorbike service due would cost around £500 and his car service light has come on. I've said he should wait until his car's mot is due and then service it as he is doing relatively low mileage. DH got paid a nice amount this month. I'm super-tired - DS went out in our car Sunday and didn't get back until gone 2am on Monday. It then took me until around 3am to sleep. Cutting down on sugar is helping - I've lost 3lb in a week.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

You have had a lot of successes this week. Celebrate them, they are great, including debt payment and weight loss. Try and catch back upon your sleep. It's not good to let your reserves get too low. What I do not give, you must never take by force.

Is DH unable to do any of the bike service / maintenance himself, as that would keep costs down, plus if he could do the car oil change, various filters and other bits, that would help with budgeting too.
Congratulations on the weightloss and I hope you do get some rest soon.
