My journey to a debt free life

  • So I went out for my Christmas meal last night and despite not wanting to go I did enjoy myself and my mushroom risotto was absolutly gorgeous,it was so much better than the last time I went there,my dessert which was a Panettone bread and butter pudding was really nice as well, the only downside was I was really tired and in quite a lot of pain so was probably not as jolly as normal,I should have taken some pain killers before I went but I was rushing so forgot,I did sleep like a log last night though but woke up this morning feeling exhausted

Today I had a quiet morning at home and then met DD at work to go shopping for the last bits of Christmas food at our big Mr T but they didn't have some of the bits we wanted so I'm going to have a look inntown on Friday
Mr T was really quiet so we were in an out of there as quickly as possible, the bus ride home was a bit arduous though ,we got stuck for a while because a schoolboy from the local secondary school was knocked off his bike by a car so the ambulance was blocking the road,I'm hoping he wasn't seriously injured, but they did have their lights flashing, the poor lad had only made it out of the school gates when he was hit
I came home and put the shopping away and sat and finished reading my book before taking the dog out,she was sitting here with her legs crossed but the book was so good and I was so near to finishing it I didn't want to stop reading, thats the thing with reading via the kindle app is it tells you how much you have left to read which encourages me to keep reading,it's not so easy with a book😂

Tomorrow I'm not going anywhere,I'm staying at home in the warm and just pottering about,I do have some ironing to do and have to sort the chickens but apart from that I'm having a relaxing day
While we were in Mr T today I found some bottles of snowball, did anyone else used to drink that at Christmas with a Cherry in it,I bought some and I'm sitting here drinking one now, they aren't as strong as home made ones but the flavour does bring back memories :rotfl:

  • Ah snowballs. I remember my Nan liking those and watching The Royle family Xmas special they had them. Real touch of nostalgia. Those and babycham used to feature in our family christmases when I was a child/teenager. Funny how fashions on drinks change.

:rotfl: they had Babycham too,I have an original Babycham glass here that used to be part of a pair that someone bought my Mum and Dad as a wedding present,it's got the logo on the front and is rimmed with gold, my friend found me a gift set with one in a couple of years ago so I have two but the new one hasn't got the gold on the rim,can you also remember Cherry brandy and a drink called Pony,my eldest sister who is sadly no longer with us used to drink Pony and she thought she was so sophisticated :rotfl:
I was shopping in a local farm shop a couple of years ago and they had Cherry Brandy and Pony for sale:beer:

  • It's probably because you've been so busy. You need a day of rest. Christmas prep is exhausting and we're trying to do all our normal stuff too!

I think it's a combination of Christmas prep and work being really busy over the last few weeks,I am usually ok so long as I just keep going then once I stop I go downhill pretty quickly,it's one of the reasons I always have this week off as I'm always exhausted by this time of the year.
Hopefully I will start to feel more normal by the weekend and will have enough energy to enjoy Christmas,if I can get on top of the pain it will help so rest is the best thing for the next day or two,I've got to go to town on Friday but it shouldn't take more than an hour so I should be in and straight out again, apart from that everything is done:j

  • I have been clearing out stuff and trying my best to minimise for a couple of years.

My husband tries his best to fill the house back up again!

I decluttered my ex partner so don't need have that problem:rotfl:

  • Today has been spent at home either reading or pottering,I've got a load of washing done but not much else,I took the dog out for a lovely long walk this morning to try and blow some cobwebs away, she enjoyed it and so did I
I started reading the book I bought in Bristol called Stuffocation Living More With Less and I haven't been able to put it down,it's an eye opening read into consumerism, how we have been encouraged to spend money and believe that material possessions are the key to a happy life when in actual fact it's making us more unhappy than ever, the author goes on to tell of people who have rejected this way of living and have chosen less material belongings and more experiences.
It's made me more determined than ever to not spend money on things anymore but rather to enjoy experiences.
I am champing at the bit to declutter my house and today I was inspired to clear a load of books from my room that I have already read,I'm taking them to the charity shop tomorrow
I can't wait for January to arrive so I can get started on my house sort out,I don't have lots of clutter all over the house but the house needs painting and my spare room is full of stuff that I don't need,I dont know why I still have most of it because if it hasn't left the spare room for over a year I obviuosly don't use any of it
I'm also going to try very hard to have as many NSDs as possible,I don't think it's realistic for me to follow DD on her now spend year but I might do a month here and there where I don't have any birthdays for example

I finished wrapping my last presents today too and that annoyed me as well,I really feel like I am just spending money for the sake of it this Christmas,I know I have cut down drastically but it all feels like a waste to me,I think next year is going to be very different,I'm thinking rather than presents I might put the money together to go for a day out with the family or something like that,I have a whole year to prepare the family for the shock of a very frugal Christmas next year,DD 2 has already said we should just buy each other one book next year, DD1 will take some convincing but I will work on her throughout the year :rotfl:
