It's very cold today here, but apparently will chuck down with rain about lunch time.

Glad you can keep your better hours, that must be a relief. I prefer working mornings to be honest and finishing work earlier. I am more of a morning person, but I wonder if that is because I have to be because of the jobs I have always done. x
I think because I have done different shifts for so long my body is just confused,In my head I prefer working earlies and finishing at 3.30 instead of 8 pm but my body prefers lates and having a lie in in the morning:rotfl:

  • What a miserable day ,I need to go out later for some shopping so I'm really hoping the rain stops soon,I will probably wait until after lunch

I have DGS today who is a lot better than he was last week when I saw him,he's still not quite right as he had a temperature yesterday and is not eating properly, he didn't want his breakfast this morning so the dog was happy:rotfl: he is just having a nap now and will hopefully eat something when he gets up
He was very interested in the Xmas decorations when he got here,I thought he would be straight over to pull stuff off the tree but he hasn't touched it,he is however fascinated by the Christmas candle holder on the coffee table ,it's from the Yankee Candle company and is made of gingerbread men and little gingerbread houses with sweets to decorate them and I think he thinks it's edible,I must say it is very convincing:rotfl:

I've managed to do some housey stuff this morning too so the dishes have been washed, the kitchen cleaned and tidied and I have a load of washing on the go,I'm just trying to motivate myself to go out and sort the chickens out while DGS is safely in his cot ,I just don't want to go outside :(

  • Just braved the rain to clean out the chicken house,my daily clean is really quick as it just involves picking up the poo and then fluffing the sawdust up to the required standards that my ladies expect, one normally pops in to check Im doing it properly,I caught one on the hop this morning though as she was still on the throne trying to lay an egg:eek:
She had a minor panic attack about whether to stay and lay or go out and eat the lovely warm mash I brought with me,the food won just long enough for me to clean the house out,she must have been standing behind me with her legs crossed because as soon as I finished she was up the ladder and back in the house :rotfl: I hope there's some food left when she has finished or I will never hear the end of it

  • My housing situation is a bit complicated because it's a shared ownership house,my mortgage ( which is actually slightly less than,my debt now ) will be paid off but I will still have to pay rent to the housing society that owns the other half of my house,I'm currently mulling over ideas to help when I retire these include
    Housing benefit or
    Renting out a room
    Dog walking
    House sitting
Selling it and !!!!!!ing off round the world on the profits and by the time. I come back I will be old enough to live in a residential home :rotfl:

How about getting a lodger now, saving all the money and using it to buy out the housing company portion of your house, so you don't have to pay rent when you retire? If your mortgage will be paid before you retire you could save the mortgage payments for the same purpose?

Just an idea but it may be impractical. You don't owe much on your mortgage which is good :).

I'm lucky that we're on a repayment mortgage and it should be paid off in nine years. DH can retire in eleven years and I can retire in thirteen years.

I would love to do that but I wouldn't be able to afford it even with a lodger, when I bought my house it was £49,000 so I got a mortgage for £24,500 but I would have to buy the housing society's share at todays value which is approximately £240,000 so I would need to find £120,000 to buy their share
I'm on a repayment mortgage too as I wanted to be sure it would all be paid off when I I retire,I can retire from my job at 60 and get my NHS pension but I won't be able to retire and get my state pension until im 69 I think

  • Blimey that's gone up a lot . Could you sell up and downsize when you retire so as to be mortgage and rent free?

I can retire when I'm 67 which is thirteen years away. I'll have to wait until then as I've got no pension :(. Mind you if I retired at 60 (only six years away ) I think I'd be bored out of my mind.

    You opened my eyes today!

Heard the term Shared Ownership and thought after awhile your share increases while theirs decreases.

Oh boy I am naive :(

Plod on your debt free day will arrive and never know something can happen where you get to do a buy out!
