I saw dad today and he doesn't look too bad but sounds awful. They are treating him for a lower respiratory tract infection with IV antibiotics. He also has fluid overload so they are treating him for that too. I'm not sure why he was on fluids in the first place seeing as he has too much in his body 🙄 Mum arrived just after I got there but didn't stay .Dad kept phoning her to ask for a phone charger so she brought one in, she said she couldn't stay because the neighbours were waiting for her outside in their car .but when I left half an hour late they were all having a coffee in the cafe 😟
Mum asked me about the heart failure which she seems to think is a new thing but according to the staff this is an ongoing problem that has got worse. I've told mum to ask the doctors to explain. I'm not sure how I can tell her that his heart is failing and ultimately this will kill him and I don't know how severe it is so he could last for weeks or months 🤷♀️
Im going back tomorrow because he doesn't have anything to do and his bed doesn't have a tv so I'm going to take him a book to read. I can't get through to mum that even though he re reads the same page it's still worth giving him a book. She thinks it's a waste of time because he can't remember what he's read but he doesn't know that and is quite happy reading.
Im also beginning to think that my mums memory is going too, she said she hopes dad hadn't kept others in the ward awake overnight so I told her he wouldn't because he only got there at 8am then five minutes later she spoke to another patient and said it again. I'm not sure I can cope with both of them having problems at the same time 🙀 my sister is coming down on Tuesday but she won't speak to me so I won't see her. I won't visit Dad while she is here in case it causes a problem.Original Debt Owed Jan 18 = £17,630 Paid To Date = £6,510 Owed = £11,1202 -
So hard to be in the position of potentially having to explain your Dad's condition to your Mum. At least at present you can share that with the hospital staff. I think the book for your Dad is a good idea - as you say, it will help him feel occupied.
I wonder if the stress that your Mum's inevitably under is a factor in her processing?
I hope you have a peaceful night.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Thanks for finding this out @Cherryfudge ☺️ It will be interesting to see if our local store accepts a passport as it’s not listed on the poster and they tend to be a bit behind the times in there.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)1

I am so glad this weekend is over ,it's been stressful to say the least.
I went to see Dad today with DD2 and had been moved into a tagged bay, this is for people who they need to keep a close eye on for various reasons. In Dads case it's because he is very poorly with pneumonia so they need to monitor him closely. He was having a nebuliser when we got there but once we arrived he wouldn't keep it on. He told me he has had a chat with the doctor and that the doctor has told him he is dying. I got to have a chat with his nurse who assured me this wasn't true. He phoned mum last night and told her he loved her but he was dying so probably wouldn't see her again. The nurse says he won't let them do anything such as chest physio or let them give him an oxygen mask and he keeps trying to get out of bed and getting very agitated.
I took him a book and a word search book just I case he wants something to do but I think he is too confused to do anything to be honest.
After we left we went to the cafe for a coffee and I phoned mum. I asked her if she had spoken to dad and she said he had phoned her and kept telling her he loved her blaa blaa blaaa ( her words ) then I old her that he had told me he was dying but that I had checked and it wasn't true so not to worry if he said that to her, she didn't say anything to me at that point but later she said he had upset her last night and when I asked why she said he'd phoned and told her he had been told he was dying and that he loved her but probably wouldn't see her again. I also told her that I was in the cafe with DD2 and a few minutes later she asked if I was working. We had a whole conversation yesterday about me having today off and going back in to see him and she didn't remember any of it.
I spoke to my niece earlier and she said she has noticed mum forgets the conversation they are having or have just had but she has put it down to mums age and her being tired. I think my mum also has a cognitive impairment but we haven't noticed so much because we've been focusing on Dad. I couldn't be bothered to explain to my niece that memory loss is not a symptom of old age it's a symptom of dementia . She along with my sister refused to believe that Dad had dementia even though neither of them are medical in any way. DD2 spent time with Dad and within half an hour had realised what was wrong but she specialises in working with Dementia patients so would know what she is talking about.
We left the hospital and I went on and got the bus home while DD2 walked home to get her steps in. I had just got on the bus she phoned me to say she had arrived home to find that B had been sick every where ,it was on the settee and all over her bed and the floor. I don't know if she was ill or just worked up because we went out and left her. We are both working tomorrow so I'm hoping she doesn't do it again.
Then to top it off the iron broke so neither of us can iron our uniforms for work tomorrow 😤
I'm actually looking forward to going back to work tomorrow so I can forget about everythingOriginal Debt Owed Jan 18 = £17,630 Paid To Date = £6,510 Owed = £11,1202
