My journey to a debt free life

  • What a miserable day that was. I got my shopping apart from the fake chicken I wanted,I was going to make Butter Chicken for tea but we had nut roast instead which was lovely and just what we needed
I also changed my bed and did my ironing. DD came down to do hers though and halfway through the iron packed up 🙄that's the second thing and I'm hoping there won't be a third 🤞🤞🤞
My cold has now progressed to the runny nose stage which is great timing as I'm back at work tomorrow. I'm just hoping the headache will be gone in the morning, I've still got a bit of earache as well but that's something I get quite a lot in that ear, hopefully it will clear up at some point
Tomorrow I'm working 9-5 in clinics so it will be a busy day, I then have Tuesday off and a study day on Wednesday, its the yearly basic life support which I hate 😟

I spent some of my Waterstones voucher today on two books. I ordered them online to be picked up from the shop, that's free delivery and I know I'm not wasting my time going to look for them.I bought The Sisters Grimm which DD1 recommended and Luckenbooth which is a book I saw myself and liked the look of. I will describe them when I pick them up because I can't remember the blurb😀 There's money left on the gift card so I can buy something else too 🎉🎉.I also have a Smiths voucher so need to decide what to spend that on as well.

Right I'm off to bed in the hope that I wake up tomorrow feeling like a new woman😀😀

Hi everyone just popping in to say hello and let you know I'm still alive 😀 I've not been feeling too good so haven't felt like posting. It's also been very busy at work so Ive been really tired.
I have made some decisions regarding my job and have cut my hours so I'm not doing the long day anymore. I've been doing it as a trial over the last month or two and even though I'm not working that long day I'm still struggling big time, this week I decided enough was enough and told my boss I wanted to make it permanent. This is a very difficult decision because it will have an impact on my budget and things will be tight but I simply can't carry on doing what I'm doing. At the moment it will be ok because DD 2 is still here so her money will make up any shortfall. I will have to look at everything again when she moves out and have some options to increase my money, I can rent her room out if I need to and I'm also investigating any benefits I might be entitled to because of being on a low income. I can also pick up extra shifts if and when I feel better, I quite often pick up in the summer so could do extra then. It's all very scary at the moment but I am in so much pain every single day that my life at the moment is a struggle. Hopefully things will improve soon. I called my gp today to try to get an appointment but gave up after being on the phone for about 20 minutes 🤷‍♀️

Im also thinking of going self managed with my DMP but I'm going to throughly investigate first to see how much work it will involve. This would make it more flexible for me and I could pay off lump sums if I am able to at any time. I currently owe N@twest less than £500 and would like to pay that off in one go but SC don't allow that. I think it would be motivational for me to see one of my debts gone completely. I'm not going to rush into it but it's an option for when DD moves out and I have to re jig the budget.

Im slowly rebuilding my emergency fund which is now back up to £500 so that's good. I'm currently just saving like a mad thing while DD is still here so I can get that fund as full as possible. I still have the jobs to do on the house so need to save for those too so it will be slow and steady.

We are both on holiday next week so we have planned to get some of the decorating finished. The little front hall still isn't finished but won't take long to do and I already have the paint and I am determined to finish painting the bathroom and lay the floor. It was DD1s 7th  wedding anniversary on the 28th of Feb and I started that bathroom the day after the wedding so it's been waiting 7 years to be finished 🙀🙀🙀 it went actually be completely done until I can have the tiles replaced around the bath/shower but I can't afford to do them at the moment. Painting it and changing the floor will make a huge difference and will also mean the flooring won't be propped up in the corner of my room anymore 😀

Anyway enough of me waffling on ,I need to go to bed because I have work tomorrow so need to get up early, I'm finishing at 5pm though so not a late finish then I just have to work Sunday and I'm off for a whole week 🎉🎉🎉

Good to hear from you OBL though I'm sorry about you being in pain and having to reduce your hours. You need to look after yourself though, even if it slows down repayments. You'll get there eventually.

  • Hi OBL
I hope work was ok and you have a relaxing evening.
I have been in debt and agree that having one debt cleared would give you a psychological boost and impetus to keep going.
I am making a HF meal tonight with my own ingredients :)

Your health is important and it’s good that you are able to pick up extra shifts as and when you feel able to do so. Reducing hours for your health sake is a wise decision. Slow and steady will get there with the DPM and the house jobs - something I say to myself a lot as I try to balance debt repayments with essential house maintenance/ upkeep.  Have a restful and peaceful weekend.
