My journey to a debt free life

I think you're right, @Onebrokelady. The rises in living costs will mean that people will be prioritising any remaining income at their disposal after that in probably a different way. I know I'm always banging on about shopping from home, but I think that might be a key objective for a year or two while we see how all this upheaval beds down. Already knocked two planned household purchases off the list.

Oh dear I've just had the pet supplies order delivered and I think it's safe to we won't be needing any cat litter for a while because I bought two 30L bags instead of one ,god knows where I'm going to keep that😀
I also bought a big bale of sawdust for the 🐓🐓but that can go in the shed. I stocked up on cat food, layers pellets and mixed corn too while I was at it. I'm having trouble getting supplies for the chickens in my local places, there's been no sawdust for a week and I've now run out and no feed either so I bit the bullet and did an online shop for it. The buses are also very unreliable at the moment so it's taking me twice as long to do any shopping which puts me off going in the first place
I went in town on Tuesday to spend my Christmas money and some vouchers but came home empty handed due my size not being in store,I've bought myself two thermal T-shirt's online today instead but I am going back in tomorrow to look at books 😍😍 The had thermals in M&S but they didn't have any size 12s and they were all long sleeved, I prefer short sleeved under layers. I'm glad I didn't find any though because the two I've bought were cheaper 🎉🎉
Whoops I hit the post button too soon😀 I'm off up the garden in a bit to make the 🐓🐓a nice deep bed and top up their food,I've already done all my house work so everywhere is looking lovely and tidy. I also washed the pet beds today and put the innards outside to air, they should be dry by bed time, I've cleaned my back door window and the living room window where B likes to look out and dribble on the glass 🙄 I do have some ironing that Im trying to talk myself into doing as well but I really don't want to. I've been on holiday this week so have spent the time I haven't been out and about trying to catch up on the washing from when the boiler broke, I had no problem getting it washed but drying it was a big issue, now I need to keep on top of it, if it would stop randomly raining it would help 😡Original Debt Owed Jan 18 = £17,630 Paid To Date = £6,510 Owed = £11,1204 -
I've been umming & ahhing over replacing my fridge & freezer for a couple of years. They are definitely no longer young probably both over 20 & are obviously no longer very efficient. It is just deciding on the financial viability of buying new. I would like a bigger freezer & a fridge that does not have the freezer bit in the top, which is completely wasted. The freezers though seem to be either E or F rated or if A then well over £1000, which would pay a lot of extra electric. I hate having to make these decisions.

@Onebrokelady - You're right, you chose the floors & there's no point heading down that well trodden path of regrets. I think I'd have been really torn over the new flooring too, as I know how much you wanted it & I'm sure I'd have been the same. Hopefully your problem radiators will hold out until you have been able to rebuild funds a little. Getting through the winter with them intact would give you a little more breathing space & it's often easier to get heating engineer types out in the summer months simply because nobody's really thinking about heating. Fingers crossed!

foxgloves - i will be thinking about heating in summer as this must be the year i get a new gas fire! The current one broke about 3 years ago so it's very cold downstairs; probably why i hardly bother with putting on the heating and go to bed early with 2 hot water bottlesLBM - October 2018; finally debt free on 16 March 2021

I've gone really mad & been buying Bosch. Boiler, DW & washing machine. Must have been a brain storm (or a good deal at the time). What I would really like from both a fridge & a freezer is one that says ok the temp is xx and you set this & this is what you get. My problem is that my current freezer is either way way below -20 or doesn't seem to freeze much at all which is not great & my fridge either does 2 a bit too cold or 10 definitely too warm. So both using either too much or not enough. Definitely need to get my a*** into gear here.1

I have a Bosch washing machine and I absolutely adore it 😜😂 I can stop it and add stuff if it has just started, it holds loads and is so quiet. I went through two cheap washing machines very quickly and with a family of six in the end I just paid the price for reliability!
Our fridge freezer was reasonable from A0. It is a stop gap as eventually I want a large separate fridge and freezer.
I am also planning on getting a radiator fixed in the warmer months. I think we had the boiler serviced around April time last year (don't normally bother but when we moved in last year there was a full service history and it had been done yeah by the company who installed it, after research decided to keep this up) so will book that and for them to look at the boys radiator that appears to not be coming on.Debt free Feb 2021 🎉1
