Sorry about the difficulties. They are really low on stocks of HRT it said on the TV the other morning, which isn't great for anyone who is needing it. Hope it works and you start to feel better soon. x

Sorry you've been feeling so rubbish, OBL. I had awful time of the month for years & difficult perimenopause but I do seem to be sailing through the menopause unscathed so far. It's different for everyone and I agree that if you're suffering, then you do need to find some help. Hope the treatment gets you on a more even keel & you soon feel more like yourself again.

  • Sorry you haven't been feeling good OBL :(. I really hope that the HRT helps you to feel better. You are probably tired too from helping with your new little DGC and helping decorate DD2's room. Be kind to yourself and allow yourself to rest when you need to.

Sorry about the dog too, you don't want her to be in discomfort and it's upsetting when you get big vet bills. Hopefully she will be on the mend soon.

I had the most awful hot flushes during the menopause, but I'm not sure about other symptoms because there were so many awful things going on in my life at that time that it's hard to pin down what contributed to me being depressed. I've come out of the other side of the menopause now though after six years of hot flushes.

Hi OBL sorry you are struggling with the menopause and hope the HRT helps. After reading the book you recommended the symptoms sound awful. I have been given a surgical menopause due to my cancer scare (massive cyst on my ovary, thankfully benign). I was awaiting hot flushes galore but nothing yet and am 4 weeks in so I suppose I won’t get any now. Sleep, feeling really ‘flat’, and anxiety is another thing mind you. My mum was on HRT when it was easy to get and she stayed on it for 30 years! Don’t think they would allow that now lol.

    Hope it works for you.

Hi,I'm so glad your cyst turned out to be benign, did they remove both your ovaries then, you might not get hot flushes straight away,it depends on how much oestrogen is in reserve invyou body, some women get them straight away, some notices steady decline and some lucky ladies don't get any, my gp said I didn't need treatment originally because I didn't have many hot flushes, what she didn't mention was that the anti depressant Im on as often prescribed to women who can't have HRT because it stops hot flushes:mad:
My main symptom is depression and lack of sleep and research shows that the mental effects of the menopause often show up way before any physical ones do,one of the other biggies is joint and muscle pain and brain fog, both of these are also symptoms of Fibromyalgia, guess who isn't in as much pain as usual since starting HRT :j

There is so much new info out there now,and it's become quite clear that GPS are woefully ignorant about the menopause in general and prescribing HRT in particular,I'm on a menopause group on Facebook that was founded by Dianne Danzebrink who is a menopause councillor And campaigner,it's called the Menopause support network ,if you need info on anything I would advise you to join,it's really friendly and full of really good info, the other site to visit run by DR Louise Newson, she is a private GP who specialises in the menopause and her website is really good

The medical establishment won't tell you this but you can actually stay on HRT for the rest of your life, there is no reason for a woman of low risk to stop taking it,I'm actually only staying on it while I'm working just to keep me going until I can retire then I will think again

I hope you are doing ok but if you are feeling low and need to chat or ask anything please feel free to post or ask on here ,I really don't mind as I know how rubbish it can make you feel

Sorry for going on about the menopause,it's become a bit of a crusade because so many women aren't getting the help they need, there is a campaign going at the moment run by a lady called Dianne Danzebrink,it's called the Menopause Matters Campaign,if you have a spare few minutes it would be amazing if you could look it up and sign the petition,it has three aims
To get menopause education added to the sexual heath education lessons in schools ,this has just been achieved

To make it mandatory that GPS have training in menopause and HRT,asnat the moment they don't get any, which when you consider that all of their patients are going to be affected by it at some point in their lives, all patients either are a woman, know a woman or love a woman

The third is to raise awareness in the workplace and to make it mandatory for all employers to have a menopause policy in place so that women who are struggling at work get the help they need, I've written in this diary about my struggles around work related to symptoms I put down to Fibromyalgia, I was diagnosed with this 16 years ago but it was managed quite well forca number of years before I started to deteriorate,I didn't realise it at the time but I was probably peri menopausal which probably made my symptoms worse,I just didn't make the connection,I nearly lost my job so having a policy in place to help would have helped me a lot at the time

So if you have a few minutes spare please sign the pettion,it's soooo important

Hi everyone,I'm just popping in for an update,I've been on HRT for ten days now and I'm starting to feel a bit more normal,I've actually slept through the night for the last few nights for the first time in years,my energy levels have gone up and I feel less anxious and depressed,I'm also not in as much pain as usual, which is a big thing for me,I'm trying not to get too excited about that though because I do have episodes where the pain goes away,so this might be one of those,I'm just enjoying it while it lasts

I four days off now so I'm planning on relaxing and enjoying myself a little bit, I went into town with DD2 today for lunch and a bit of shopping,I bought myself a book and a little pair of silver earrings, I felt like treating myself but didn't go crazy, tomorrow we are going for a walk to a village up the road from us,we have never been there but it's a nice walk so I thought we could explore our neighbourhood a bit more,we live in a lovely place but never take advantage of it,it's going to be a lovely sunny day tomorrow so I'm looking forward to getting out in the sun
I haven't made plans for Monday yet,but might do some bits in the garden if it's still nice

I hope you all have a lovely bank holiday weekend xx

  • I'm really glad the HRT is helping OBL. The menopause symptoms can be truly dreadful. I hope it continues to give you a better quality of life :). There does seem to be a lack of information out there and doctors are so busy that they probably don't get time to research it, so it should definitely be incuded in their training.

You sound like you had a really nice day today with DD2 and your plans for tomorrow sound good too :).

I'm also glad the HRT is helping and that you have found a support thing to help you. I will go and have a look at it later. My family have the menopause in their late 30s and early 40s which has resulted in them barely getting any treatment as the Drs have refused to admit that they were going through it, even though family history proves we are young.

Enjoy your four days off. I am going into my last week now. I hate it when I approach the end of the summer holidays as I know it's going to start getting cold and wet and then Christmas things start appearing. x

  • Thanks OBL will definitely take a look at those sites. Yes ovaries, tubes, womb, cervix and appendix all gone. Cslt reckons if I haven’t had any symptoms then I won’t now. I did have the M1 Rena coil in for 6 years so who knows where I was with menopause before the op, it’s a mystery! I think some of the feeling flat is to to with OH being stressed and depressed with his back. Also my parents haven’t been getting on too well ( mind you they never have). Am just fed up of it all. I know his back is never going to get better (knackered discs), he does his physio, mostly, but the stress side of him doesn’t make it any better as all the muscles then clamp up, but he won’t have it. I am generally very up beat, always have been, mainly cheerful as being in the medical profession I always thought my problems were nothing compared to some of the ones I looked after. I must say the pain at the base of my thumb seems to be better and have read that that is a common site for pain and should go post menopause. Will see how it goes when start to do more and over the winter when it is more painful.

Glad you’re feeling better, my mum loved her HRT, said it transformed her. Enjoy the lovely weather.

Maybe the consultant is right and you will be ok,I hope so :) my mum and dad don't get on either and it does upset me,I've tried to not get too stressed out about it now though because my mum won't do anything about it so I can't really help her

I think my warning sign that I wasn't doing too well was exactly that,im usually quite an optimistic person and my life is quite nice really so I have nothing to be sad about, everything was just so overwhelming and I'm someone who is a coper,I'm feeling so much better even 10 days later
