Well the cold I thought had gone doesn't seem to be done with me yet,I've now got a sore throat again and feel a bit rubbish, I'm on a long day tomorrow as well so not good timing,I'm going to go to bed soon in the hope I will feel better in the morning

Tonight has been spent researching how to change a washer on a tap,the bathroom tap has been dripping for ages but I'm too scared to try and fix it myself,I've done some YouTube viewing though and think I can do it,I just need to buy the right spanner for the job,in the mean time I have isolated the water supply to that tap and turned it off,we can turn it back on temporarily if we need to use it but it stops it dripping all day and night,I'm on a water meter so need to get it sorted as soon as possible
If it proves too difficult I will have to call a plumber,I hate paying for someone to do such a small job though and sometimes it's hard to get people out in the first place

I haven't really done much today due to feeling a bit rough,so after taking the dog to the vet I went food shopping then came home and cleaned out the chickens,I read for a bit then I made the banana bread I was supposed to make the other day,it's turned out really nice so I will be taking a piece to work for my pudding tomorrow

This afternoon when I was doing the washing up I had the pleasure of watching a little robin have a bath in a pot saucer of rain water that is on top of the chicken run,he looked like he was really enjoying himself,I also have to report that since I put the padlock on the bird feeder the lid has stayed on:rotfl:

  • I hope your early night makes your sore throat go away. You've got a lot done for someone who didn't feel great.

It's a good idea to turn off the water to that tap. I hope you manage to fix it yourself, that would be a really useful skill to have :).

Did you manage with the tap? I keep thinking that I wouldn't know how to deal with an emergency here like isolate a tap. I think I need to take a leaf out of your book and start to learn some basics x

You can do anything if you put your mind to it. x
  • You can find out most thing through You Tube tutorials Nicnak. It would certainly save a lot of money to be able to do the more simple jobs. Not that I know how to do them :o.

Hi Nicnak,I haven't tried it yet because I was working,I'm supposed to be going to buy the spanner today but I'm not feeling too good so might not end up doing it
I've learned how to do most things from YouTube if they are jobs that are safe to do yourself,my main problem is if the job requires the use of any strength because I'm not that strong anymore
The main issue with doing the tap is that you risk cracking the sink when undoing nut on the tap,I've found a method that aims to avoid this but I'm not sure if I have the strength to actually do it,the tap in question has been here for a long time so is likely to be really stiff,I really don't want to call out a plumber though :rotfl:

I only know how to isolate the tap becasue my brother in law replaced the pipe to that tap several years ago now and he put a valve on the pipe that enables you to turn the water off just for that tap, normally you would just turn the water off via the main stopcok for your house, mine is located under the sink in the kitchen near the floor behind a runnof drawers,it's always handy to know where this is in case ou do have a leak and need to turn the water off

I've woken up to another grotty day here with high winds and rain,I am supposed to be going out today to buy a new bed for the dog and a spanner for the tap. I don't feel great though so I'm not sure if I'm going to end up doing it,the weather is also putting me off a bit,but then again a walk might help clear my head ........hmmmmm decisions decisions

My dog really does need a new bed though, the bed she has now is like a large cushion with no sides and it's gone all lumpy and horrible,I've noticed she is stiffening up slightly as she has got older and I think a new bed would probably help,I want to get one with sides as she sleeps in the landing and it gets a bit chilly at night so if she has sides she can snuggle up better, the cat also likes to share her bed but he tends to plonk himself down right in the middle so she ends up half on the bed and half on the floor,so it needs to be big enough for both of them and it needs to be washable, not many requirements then:D

I have two days off now so if I don't get out today I might be able to do it tomorrow ,I'm then working on Monday but have taken Wednesday off as I have AL to use up, this means I have Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday off which will be nice,I normally book a week off at the end of Jan beginning of Feb but I messed it up last year so I really need a few days off in a row,I asked for Monday but it's too busy so I couldn't have it :( I still have 14 hours to take but I mrunning out of time,I might see if I can get another day off next week as well

The weather is miserable here too: I'm telling myself we are getting all the rain now so it can be nice later. The buds are showing green on the trees which I count as a big step in the right direction.

We have the same sort of problems with last minute annual leave (I expect it's a common problem). Ours gets ridiculous - my manager fixed some of mine by inventing a shift on a day off which I then take as leave, and counting one of my normal shifts as extra. Complicated, but it works pay-wise, though not in terms of rest. Every year I resolve to do something about it, but there's always some odd bit of time needing to be sorted.

Hope you find the perfect dog bed. :)
