I hope you're enjoying your birthday celebrations Maman.

I know what works for me in terms of losing weight, which is restricting (not completely cutting out) carbs. Once I get into the swing of it I can manage it ok, I just need a kick up the bum right now to get me started.

I know it's an excuse but right now I'm trying to keep my sanity whilst reducing alcohol and looking for a job so it's not at the top of my list of priorities, but I must get to it soon.

    10/20 today and 4/5 SNC.

I do fancy a drink but like the smug feeling of waking up feeling fresh. I might take a day off the tablets on Saturday so I can celebrate the rugby properly.

Sorry I missed your birthday, Maman; it sounds lovely, but here's another treat: :bdaycake: Eight years! Fabulous. Truly well done.

You're right about the exercise thing; when I swam three or four days a week I noticed I ate a massive bowl of porridge and yoghurt with sultanas afterwards because I was starving. Unhelpful, to say the least. There are people who enjoy either the exercise and/or the feeling afterwards and/or being toned. I'm not one of them and to try to kid myself I am is setting myself up for failure. I don't do that anymore. One thing at a time, AnnieG, and of the two, booze is by far and away the bigger issue for most of us.

What does work for me is 'changing one thing' which Bo0ts the Chemi$t used as a strapline a few years ago over New Year. It honestly is the best bit of self-care I've ever come across. Trying to do two things at once, ie give up booze and lose weight will result in failure for the vast majority of us, but after four and a half years I think I have to stop using that excuse.

68.3 kgs, which is a relief after yesterday's lunch.
    14/31 please, Shaggy.
    Better is good enough.

Morning all. Honeybear I remember the Boots thing you mentioned and it’s a great idea. On the weightloss front, or lack of, maybe anyone who is struggling could do a food diary for a week? I just came back from holiday last week 3lbs heavier (I was only away 5 nights!). I was talking to DD saying I didn’t even have an ice cream, but then remembered the cake every afternoon. The cheese in the evenings with extra bread, wine blah blah blah. I only have a lb of that to lose now (on top of the 4stone). OH walked the legs off me so I thought that justified the cake every day, obviously not. As for drinking, I didn’t drink excessively more than I would at home on the wine front, just an extra beer or two. My S/World consultant says exercise is only 20% of weightloss, the rest is down to what goes in our mouths.

Yesterday didn’t go as planned but am calling in for tonight early so 6/31 for me please.

I read an interesting quote on the Twitter yesterday
‘Alcohol is only buying some of tomorrows happiness’ or words along those lines. I think I might have to put that in my signature to remind me. Or stick on the fridge maybe.
Total weight lost 6.5/73lbs starting yet again. Afds August 10/15. /8 Sept.

My fittness instructor sister uses the same statistic - it's 80% diet, is what she says about weight loss. I have no idea, however, if there is any real science behind those numbers!
What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.
