Cutting Down Alcohol Thread

  • The documentary was on the main C5 channel (not one of the various C5 spin-off channels) and was called ‘Alcohol and Me’. Don’t exactly know the rules about posting links on here but a G*ogle search brings up a link about it on the first line.

It was an eye-opener for sure, these were people who had gone way beyond drinking ‘a bit too much’, and were just self-destructing but were unable to stop.

    7/15 and 1 SNC - hurray a smiley.

Another new week, only 3 more after this and it's half term. A few 'frogs' - difficult meetings this week and a to do list that is getting longer. To my shame my admin goes back to November so must try and at least get to the New Year - sigh, guess that's another working weekend. Still I will be very pleased when able to remove Sept to December diary from Filofax and put it away.

    Have a good week everyone
  • 14/25 for me today please :). Also can you put me down for 4 on the SNC - out on Thursday and may or may not have a drink.

Fresh new week. I'm going to reach my (low) target this week and then there's loads of month left to get extra days. :D

We're away for 2 weeks next month so there's every chance my AFD count will be low so the more I can get in now the better.:)

9/10 AFDs please Shaggy and 1/3 for the SNC.

    Update from me

    5/5 for last weeks SNC
12/26 for January Challenge (Still only 1 night drinking so far this month!)

Please put me down for 5/5 for the SNC again.

I am doing a low FODMAP diet for my IBS now, and although some alcohol is allowed, its limited, so this should help limit me on my non AFD's!

    Hello everyone.

14/31 thank you very much Shaggy. Another Sunday lunch, yesterday, without a glass (or 2) of red (yay!). I'm becoming used to having orange squash instead and I don't feel like I'm missing out now.

The recycling box is also a lot lighter! :)

Oh I meant to ask if anyone else watched the documentary on C5 a couple of nights ago (think it was Thurs or Fri), I can’t recall the exact title, it was similar to ‘Drinking & Me’. C5 can be a little schlocky and sensational with some of their programmes but this was quite measured and not really exploitative. Even so, some of the stories were just awful to hear. Some of the people on there had been, by their own account, ‘drinking to die’ and I am just amazed they didn’t succeed. One guy on there started drinking as soon as he woke up and had consumed a whole bottle of vodka by 9am, then just accelerated from there. He estimated that he drank 1,000 units a week at that stage! Some of the stories really were a tough listen.

I did watch that. Also BBC Horizon "Is binge drinking really that bad" - I would recommend the latter if you haven't seen it....
What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.
