Cutting Down Alcohol Thread

Honey Bear I was thinking now you've been AF for (I think) for nearly 5 years how do you cope with really stressful events? I still don't think I have this cracked....I think I'd still reach for a strong drink...(or 3)....
Anyone else got any advise ? Good tips?
I'm sure HB will have informed advice if you're a 'giver up' but my perspective is as a 'cutter down'.
I think it's probably about how your mind works in terms of decision making. Most days/weeks I make my mind up in advance when I'm going to be AF. It's as if once the decision is made I stick to it. If I know there is likely to be a stressful situation coming up then I allow myself leeway and don't commit in advance so that if I want a drink I've allowed for it. When the stress comes I'm still hoping to be AF (I try to reserve my drinking days for social drinking) then I take it an hour at a time and hope to get through it.
I've noticed that over time I have few, if any, 's*d it' days. I suppose the hardest times might be when something unexpected happens. If I had an unplanned drink then I suppose all I could do is console myself with having substitute AF days later in the month/next month to redress the balance. After all the way the thread works is that we're looking for totals that we're happy with/committed to not specific days otherwise we'd all be givers up.
Hope this rambling makes sense to someone other than me. Thanks for raising it Shaggy. It's good food for thought.
Unless something unexpected happens, I won't be drinking today. Smiley day for me too.:D
10/10 AFDs please and 2/3 for the SNC.0 -
Can I post in advance for tonight (as I am driving) please for;
WDC 3/5
Jan 15/30
Thanks.0 -
Popping in to call 15/31, thank you Shaggy. I watched the BBC documentary on catch up last night (thanks Shaggy and maman for the recommendation). I was shocked to hear that 3 standard glasses of red wine is considered to be binge drinking :eek:.
I looked it up and yes the NHS considers that 6 units in a single session (e.g. 'between 2 and 3 standard glasses (175ml) of 13% strength wine'), to be binge drinking. I thought binge drinking was drinking so much that you start slurring or stumbling.
I would never have considered myself to be a binge drinker - but I regularly consume 2-3 glasses or red wine as its just over half a bottle.0 -

Thanks for your post maman - plenty to ponder there....thanks...What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.0 -
