HB: your talk of Becks Blue encouraged me to pick up a pack of Nanny State (Brewdog alcohol free beer - well, 0.5 %). Nice but annoying that it's more expensive than many alcoholic beers! But it does taste like a nice craft beer, and no one else in the house pinches it, unlike any soft drinks (including tonic water, grr).

Calling 24/21 early today. I have 2 more cans of Nanny State in the fridge and no desire to drink anything else.

My OH loves Nanny State - infact he had 2 bottles last night with our takeaway (with friends)...I was on decaf tea :A Friends had a lager then went on to diet coke...so not rock and roll...but we had a lovely time..
What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.

    Good morning everyone,
    26 please Shaggy.
Have visitors arriving today, so I think (I know) that it will involve drinking. It's only for four days hopefully I'll restore normal order when they leave. That said I'm looking forward to seeing them.

Those of you are struggling, keep going.

What's really amazing about this thread is how much information people come up with that's new to other people and really helps. Brilliant stuff.

As to people in RL not knowing how much we drink and then saying, 'Oh but you don't have a problem' Yes Yes Yes! I was amazed by that. I was certain people knew how often I was pi**ed, but apparently not. And now, of course, I don't realise when other people are, until OH picks an argument or a friend stomps off in the middle of an evening out, although to be fair that particular chap hasn't done that for a few years but it used to be a regular occurence.

Cathy Bird, if you were AF, no-one would turn a hair, as I've found out. What's uncomfortable is choosing not to accept generous hospitality, particularly when you're new to a social situation and you can't say, 'Thanks but I don't drink.' In the circumstances I'd have done exactly as you did until I stopped completely.

Sounds like progress, Glenda SB. Good for you for timing it so that it didn't cause ructions. Having an AF drink I liked that I could drink all evening was, and still is, a godsend. Several people who'd never tried it before I introduced them to it now swear but it, too.

I wish Baileys would post again, just so that we'd know she's okay.

    28/31 please, Shaggy.
    Better is good enough.

Wise words as ever from this forum. Thank you.

HB there are lots of people who used to post regularly and who are now AWOL. I was one of them. But for me, it was an increasingly busy life to some extent. Looking back it was also because my drinking had increased and I didn't want to acknowledge it too much. I often wonder what happened to ManPants and MarkMan to name a few. Lets hope its just RL getting in the way and not alcohol.

The wine thoughts have crept in since 12pm. I don't drink during the sunday day as I drive later afternoon, so my usual pattern on a sunday is get in about 6.30 and my treat is a bottle of wine and tv. Sort dinner and get ready for Monday morning. I've told myself its only Day 3, so if I cave now then its pretty poor show. I fancy a drink because of the day of the week, if it were a Monday, this thought process wouldn't be happening.

The kids have spied my "go to" soft drinks that I've put in the fridge and are eyeing up for themselves. So think I could be replacing them sooner than anticipated. :D They are drinks that we would regard as a treat, so it feels like I'm still having something nice. But at least with the wine they left that alone. :rotfl:

So when I go out later on this afternoon, I am leaving my purse at home and taking no money with me.

The 100 days seems daunting right now, but the 30 seems manageable. So I'm working on that for now. Also if I don't drink until my GP appointment, then that is 21 days under my belt, which will be better if I need blood tests. Plus I am still not entirely pain free, but it has significantly improved since 2 days ago, so having wine this evening, would be a complete disaster. I know this, I have to remember it. Its breaking that habit. I am also stocked up with chocolate and sweets.

I am cooking a roast dinner whilst kids are doing homework and chilling. Its a normal sunday, without wine to look forward to at the end of the day. That's the hard bit.

I walked into town earlier with my daughter, I was thinking about wine as we passed adverts up on banners about it. We went into tesco and got what was needed without wine. I'm ok about it at the moment and pleased I didn't succumb, especially when DD asked if I needed to get wine. A telling moment too. But there was little point in me taking it all back the other day, only for me to re-buy more.

Ho hum. Sorry about the ramblings. But its helping me.
Live for the moment and plan for the future

Thanks Honey Bear - I found it hard to call and am still mulling it over, but I'll meet target for this month anyway, which makes me happy. Also, I've straight away reverted to not drinking by preference, so that seems to be the default setting now, which makes me even happier!

Yes me too, I wonder how she is. Hi Baileys if you're out there

Then just go ahead and ramble all you like! Thinking aloud often helps sort out our priorities. Also, so many of us are (or have been) in the same place so we not only empathise with your 'ramblings' but they make us think about our own position.

I know exactly what you mean about a habit of weekend drinking. I enjoy it and look forward to it so I know what a big deal it is for you. So far, almost the only time I have an AF day at the weekend is if I'm out doing something where drinking isn't involved. I can go to the cinema or theatre and have a coffee (even though wine is on sale) or if drive to a dance. One plus is that I now don't drink when I get home as I used to play catch up.:o

Good luck with this evening. You can do it.:) Go girl!:D
  • I'm currently trying all the total alcohol free wines.
I've tried some from Asda - Muscat £2.50 each comes in rose and white and located with the fizzy pop rather than down the wine aisle. Tried the rose and it is ok.

Tesco have a Freixfent o% alcohol in white and rose at £5 a bottle. Rose is nicer than the white in my opinion, but both drinkable. I like sparkling so these are idea for me. It just makes me feel like I am able to have a 'drink' when really, it's just expensive pop!

If I try anymore, i'll let everyone know.
