Please let me know if I've made a mistake!

Everyone Welcome Anytime of the Month!
What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.

No one in real life knows how much I drink. I am too ashamed to admit it.

Don't know if it's just me but I think talking to people in RL is overrated! Whenever I try to discuss it - even with my OH - I just get the reaction "you barely drink what you on about!" Nobody is really interested in how I struggle to "barely drink"..... so I just bore you lot!

I like you boring me Shaggy😀. But you’re right.
I went out for a meal with my bf last night. I had an OJ. Was not remotely tempted. I think because I had made up my mind. I also told him about the 30 day challenge in case he saw any notifications on my phone. It was very casual. So I now have some accountability in real life too.

This is day 2 re-run from Wednesday. Fingers crossed. It should not be an issue as I am up early driving.

The daily email, videos and support from The 30 Day Challenge are really good too.

This has been a really low month for me from the AFD point of view but the circumstances under which I drank while on holiday were really unusual and I'm still thinking about it. First up, I worked out it was actually nicer not to drink on the plane but to stick to apple juice, which is a first for me. Then I worked out that when I was at my Airbnb place if I ate there I could easily avoid drinking too, which will also be helpful for future holidays. So those two things were great positives. Anyway, at the risk of people being able to identify themselves, the purpose of my visit was to help my dad clear out a house he owns that is not in his home town. My dad's plan was to stay in this house while he sorted it out, but he ended up getting ill straight away and was taken in by the next door neighbours, very very kind people. They invited me to eat there every night with themselves and my dad. They were doing my dad and myself a big favour and I didn't feel I could easily refuse their invitations to eat there or to partake with them - they were "wine every night" people. I almost did, I told them I hardly drank when I as back home in the UK, but then I decided that the more harmonious thing to do seemed to be to go along with what they were doing. If I had refused it would have probably been all right, in fact - they would have gone along with it. But they might have seen me as more of an outsider and for my dad's sake I didn't want to rock the boat because they were doing us such a big favour. They helped my dad sort himself out in all sorts of really important ways. I still can't quite work out whether I should have abstained or not but I have the feeling it helped that I didn't. Anyway, that's how it went. The good thing I have taken away with me is that I now know how not to drink on holiday, if I choose not to (even though that's not how it worked out this holiday).

I think I've arrived at a point where I'm happy to drink about five days a month and that's enough. I don't want to drink less or more than that. I should really adjust my monthly target to suit but for the moment I like going for 21 because it feels easy and doable. So for the moment, that's what I'll do.

    26/25 AFDs today
  • Managed to have a civilised conversation with DH about the drunken argument, all feels better now.

HB: your talk of Becks Blue encouraged me to pick up a pack of Nanny State (Brewdog alcohol free beer - well, 0.5 %). Nice but annoying that it's more expensive than many alcoholic beers! But it does taste like a nice craft beer, and no one else in the house pinches it, unlike any soft drinks (including tonic water, grr).

Calling 24/21 early today. I have 2 more cans of Nanny State in the fridge and no desire to drink anything else.
  • Also CuppaTea having not yet managed a full AF month, I've also signed up to the 30 day challenge. Thanks for the link :)
