Everyone Welcome Anytime of the Month! What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.0 -

Think I will go for 20 in November but will hope to exceed that if possible
CuppaTea - Really felt for you reading your posts. Don't beat yourself up, you're only human. At least you have the desire to change the situation...a lot of people don'tHaving a complete break to reset is such a good idea. Sending you lots of hugs and willpower!! And don't feel ashamed about not getting hangovers...I don't get them either.
Shaggy - sorry to hear you've had sad news. Sending you hugs too.

Thank you everyone for your incredible support and taking the time to reply. You’re right shaggy ....a few days is not long and I will start to feel better. I have also booked a doctors appointment for a few weeks time. HB, I love reading and will definitely be doing more of that.
Ok I’m going to attempt the 100 day challenge. The longest I have been this year is 3 days. I’m hoping to get into the swing of it. My liver definitely needs a break and a reset.
I have no wine in the house. It will be good to not have endless battles in my head about drinking. But what to tell people.....hmmmm.
I shall also be posting here daily or as much as I can.
Shaggy please put me down for everything. I am out tonight for a meal. That will be the first test.Live for the moment and plan for the future0 -
Morning all. I succumbed last night. The voices started at about 3pm. I was out until 6pm. Opened the wine at 6.30 and that was that. In my head I justified it because I was child free.
So I have had an awful nights sleep. My body feels awful and I am sat here worrrying what this heavy drinking is doing to my organs. I googled the 100 day challenge. I think I need to do this. It seems so daunting.
My problem is how to stay accountable. No one in real life knows how much I drink. I am too ashamed to admit it. How do I stay on track?
I am getting rid of the rest of the wine in the house and have a think about what drink I can replace it with.
Day 1 again. The only person I am cheating is me. And my children. I feel so sad.
Sorry to hear you're going through a 'bad' patch cuppa. I know that feeling that comes on in the afternoon. A bit like fatrab and the pub, I used to come past wine bars on the way home and, whether it was them looking festive and inviting in the winter or people outside in the sunshine, they always tempted me.
I think it's about having a reward/something to look forward too. Usually I can manage by looking forward to the weekend but other times I have to tell myself (sometimes out loud and quite sharply:o) that I'm not going to drink tonight. Posting on here definitely helps, and also what I think psychologists call visualising. So I tell myself, for example, that when I finish dinner I can sit down all cosy and comfortable on the sofa with a nice cuppa and relax. Other scenarios are available whether it's a relaxing bath or whatever suits you. Or what about planning something to do when the children aren't there that doesn't involve a pub? I go dancing, others choose the gym, or the cinema or theatre. That way I don't spend every evening doing the same thing and drinking from habit/boredom.
Just ideas but MissP is right. The very fact that it concerns you and you want to do something about it is a positive thing. Hang on in there. You'll get there.:A0 -
CuppaTea I just say 'I'm not drinking at the moment.' If they ask why, I usually respond with 'To annoy you, of course'. But I am difficult
Could you say you are ending the year with a challenge? Can you put the cash aside for a project / donation and tell people what you are focusing on? I think that's why Sober October /Dry January make things easier, it's a useful shortcut. Also, no need to tell the truth. 'I'm doing a 100 day challenge in memory of my cat, Fluffy. If I make the 100 days I'll donate 100 tins of Whiskas to the RSPCA.'0 -

Long time lurker here, I check in most days and read
After watching the Adrian Chiles programme what struck a chord with me was his apparent denial of having a problem. I found the 30 day Alcohol Experiment online and finished it 16 days ago, and have continued AF since. You get a daily email essay and a shortish video covering various aspects of drinking/addiction, how it works on the mind, the physical affects of alcohol, breaking the habit etc and there is a journal part you can fill in if you want.

I hope it may help someone, I cannot recall having such a Long period of abstinence for probably 10 years :T0 -
Mamas and GS thank you for being able to relate to me. Makes me feel not so alone and desperate.
Lots of great ideas. Much appreciated.Live for the moment and plan for the future0
