morning all
hugs to those who need them esp moliere and a raised glass to all our absent friends
Ddad and auntie will be here any time soon. I made a big batch of twinks yesterday in their honour but it seems that .... ahem .... a mousie or some such thing has been eating some of them as evidenced by the crumby plate I took down from the bedroom this morning - they are delish - I only know cos the mousie told me.
dad spent the day yesterday going around some of the homes he was in. One of them is now a private residence and the lady let him have a look around. He burst into tears when he saw that she has kept a lot of the features. Another is now a home for people with learning disabilities and he was allowed to see some of it. he also went to his first school where they still have the old records - he found his name and in the space for his mother's name they had written "matron". goodness I'm feeling tearful now so I don't know what it's like for him - I will give him big hugs and loves when I see him as well as lots and lots of coffee and twinks. the tragedy of all this was that he had parents - his father was in the navy and pretty much abandoned him and his mum was sectioned but for what I don't know. they were reunited at some point cos I rmember visiting her when I was 8 but she was definitely not all there. My dad and his sister had been looking for each other for years and his mum knew where each of them was but prtended not to - oh dear I'm rambling. I might ask dad to put his story on the web if he can't get it published
anyway must go - someone has allowed their dog to poo outside my gate so i must go and sort that out -I'm going to feed our children non-organic food and with the money saved take them to the zoo - half man half biscuit 20080 -

Mioliere so sorry to hear about your MIL <<hugs>> to you and your DH
And hello to you if I haven't mentioned you by name xx
Busy few days. I redid all the grouting in the bathroom with some Tile Grout Whitener from Lakeland. I used to use candles/oil candles when I bathed, but the smoke ruined the ceiling and the grout. A few weeks ago I repainted the ceiling, which made the grout look even worse. And now it looks fabulous.
Went to see Milton Jones last night, he was soooo funny. Saw ourselves on TV when Bremner Bird and Fortune went out on Sunday, but we only saw ourselves becasue we knew where we were sitting IYSWIM. No one would have spotted it was us unless they knew.
Dinner tonight will be Thai Green CHicken, using a Sharwood mix which was a free gift in last week's Ocado delivery. I;m going to try Delia's Thai Green Rice to go with it. I#ve been working my way through one of her cookbooks as too often I look at the lovely recipes and then don't bother making anything.
No housework today, did enough of that on Tuesday to last me the whole week.
Might pop to Wisley today. DH has been working all week and has today off.
Have a lovely day.0 -

Moilier - so sorry to hear about your MIL (((hugs))) to you and yours
Stefejb - your dads story is very touching. My step-dad was born in Jamaica and used to follow his mum everywhere until she disappeared when he was about 4. She left him with his granny who was abusive and went to England. He didn't hear from her again until he was 8 went she sent for him and when he arrived in England he had two new brothers and a step father that was even more abusive than his grandmother had been. To cut a long story short, he ran away so many times he ended up in a childrens home and in those days, as soon as you turned 16 you got turfed out to fend for yourself. He has no idea where any of his family are now. Despite a very hard life, he is an absolutely lovely man who makes my mum very happy, and now they are foster carers - his way of trying to make sure at least some kids don't get the hard deal he did.:A
I gather your dad is Dutch? My OH's dad is also from Holland and he and my OH love those chocolate sprinkles on bread! What is a twink?
Shez - I don't now if this helps but, VERY basically, inorder to lose a pound a week, you need to reduce your calorie intake (based on the amount you would need to maintain your weight) by 500 kcal everyday. The safest way to do this so that you're not cutting back too drastically on food and losing out nutritionally, is to reduce the calories you consume by 250 per day and then burn the other 250 with exercise (half an hours vigourous exercise would do this). Obviously, the more you burn through exercise, the less you have to cut down on what you eat, but don't overdo it!
Right, I'm all stinky and sweaty so I'm off for that bath - fake tan here I come!:TOctober grocery challenge(started 17/10/07):

Morning everybody.
Completed my GTTR application for teacher training and sent through the reference request from my boss. Felt terrible because I'm on sick leave but he knew that I would still apply and advised me to keep my options open so I know he'll be supportive.
Washed up this morning and put baby clothes in dryer. It's a beautiful crisp day today - my favourite time of the year, shame I can go out for a walk to enjoy it
Congrats on the house Pooky - I love that feeling of relief when you finally get a yes! Hope all you facebook users have added Martin to your friends list too£4000 challenge

Hi all - just sat down with a coffee.
First of all, thank you all so much for your good wishes for my MIL - I'll keep you posted on her progress. We have heard nothing new so far. The fact that she is usually hale and hearty is keeping us thinking that she'll pull through.
POOKY - just a word of warning before you put pen to paper re your existing landlord. If you paid a deposit when you first started renting, make sure you get it returned first. You don't want to give him an excuse either to not pay it or to make you wait for it. He does deserve the letter, though. I thought bad landlords were a thing of the past. If he can afford to have a property to rent out, then he can afford to keep it maintained - it's part of the contract. Good luck with the move, you sound so excited.
LUXOR - I, too, am a book addict and have thousands. Every time we move, my DH (who doesn't see the point in reading - yes, I know, he's mad!) makes me sort through them and get rid of some and, before long, I've built the collection up again. I find it so hard to part with them and I can't resist buying them in charity shops. I can't imagine life without books and I don't think a house is a home without them, especially for encouraging children to read. I don't think DH has noticed that all the gaps on the bookshelves have disappeared!
STEFIJIB - (((hugs))) to your Dad - what an emotional journey he is on.
Well, I've been to the shops and bought the paper and some more cake baking cases for my big bake at the weekend. I haven't made cakes for ages - I didn't have the energy when I was ill and I have had several family requests for them. I found it annoying having to buy some for DH's packed lunch - so expensive and with unknown ingredients - I can't stand it any longer!
I'm going to do a bit of work, then sort out the Christmas things - I shall feel better once I've made a start on that and it will motivate me to keep going. I'll try and do some wrapping and card-writing every day.
Anyway, hope the sun is shining where you are - it's lovely here, if a bit cold.
See you later.

Good morning everyone,
Well it's been a bit chilly here as well.OS left early this morning. Had a lovely day with DGS. He helped me bake this morning & do my chores & we played for the best part of the day. XDIL is arriving around 11am tomorrow, have lunch and then they will head off.
The good news is that he's back next Friday for the weekend.
I need a week to recover anyway.
I have an overabundance of cucumbers now, on top of the lettuce. Also there is about 1 million tomatoes on the bushes. I'm not sure I like this veggie growing lark. It's a lot of hard work.
Moiliere I hope all the best for MIL. Definately keep us updated.
Stefejb & Sam Oh how sad for your DF's. It's amazing the things we are amazed about our parents. You must be so proud of them. Oh BTW a Twink is a scottish pest. There edible when coconut is added.
Pooky Great news about the house.
((((hugs)))) to those with a cold. Hope you get better soon. Best go and get DGS to sleep. DD has read him lots of books and he'sstill saying more. I better go and rescue her.Byeeeeeeeee

Morning All
Really tired after last night. Got stung for £20 for a bowl of rice, korma and two drinks. They split the bill evenly, even though I said I couldn't afford that. Very nice of them. Then my mother stung me for £45 for the rates. No notice or warning, just pay up now.- I hate the way she does that. She's being really horrible at the moment as far as money goes.
Still no word on my flat, and I'm really starting to get annoyed now. I really need to move out as my mother and I are beginning to really fall out with each other.
It's a colleague's last day today, so more expense tomorrow night with a leaving do. Won't be going out until November now, as I really need to save up some money again. I've restarted the £2 pot to try and pay for the car - only £6 in there at the moment though. Is it really bad that I get excited when I have 7p to save in the penny and 5p jar?
I really want to go home cos I need sleep, but I can't see me going as I don't want to be there.Comping, Clicking & Saving for Change0
